Netflix hints about Q4 results

In a recent statement, Netflix hinted about their Q4 results. They are expecting 1,470,000 to 1,495,000 subscribers, 4.7% to 5% subscriber churn, and subscriber acquisition costs around $32.50 to $33.50. Revenue will be in the $80 - $82 million range. Netflix Opens 2 New Shipping Centers

Netflix just announced (http://www.netflix.com/PressRoom?id=5231) that they have opened 2 new shipping centers in Greensboro and Rochester. This brings overnight delivery to more than 80% of Netflix members. Great news if you live in these areas.

11 Netflix Fans Break World Record

I couldn't be there to get the whole story, but it looks like 11 of the 20 Netflix fans attempting to break the Guiness World Record for continuous movie watching did it. This Yahoo news item http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/031208/sfm106_1.html says they watched more than 35 movies in 66.5 hours. Whew! Congrats to the winners of the Netflix lifetime memberships!

Movie Watching World Record

According to this story on Yahoo http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/031205/sff010_1.html 20 Netflix members are trying to break the Guiness World Record for continuous movie watching, currently at 66 hours and 17 minutes. If you're in New York City, be sure to stop by Times Square and check out the crazy Netflix fans. The record will be broken early Monday (December 8th) if any of the 20 can survive the weekend.

Zacks & Motley Fool Like Netflix

Zacks rated Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) as a new member of the Zacks #1 Ranked list. They liked Netflix because of the surprisingly strong sales and membership growth last quarter, and are forecasting 100% growth over the next year. The Motley Fool likes Netflix vs. Blockbuster in this article http://www.fool.com/news/mft/2003/mft03120205.htm (another annoying free registration required). The article suggests that customers realize that for $10 more than the Blockbuster rental price they can own the movie and not have to return it (risking a late fee as well), making Netflix's DVD "all-you-can-rent" subscription model attractive for trying a movie before buying it. Another interesting point is that when the most popular movie this year, Finding Nemo, was released 80% of the first day purchases were on DVD.
