Update: As of 2pm (EST) Cinematch is fixed and the site is back to normal operations.
A source at Netflix says that Cinematch, the Netflix ratings and movie recommendation engine, is down due to technical problems. You can still use the rest of the site, but won't see any recommendations.
From PC Magazine:
The company has also developed CineMatch, an Oracle database that organizes the Netflix library into clusters of similar movies and then analyzes how customers have rated them. Those who have given similar ratings to the same movies in a cluster are then matched as like-minded viewers. CineMatch looks at the clusters you've rented from in the past, determines which titles you have yet to rent, and recommends only those films that have been highly rated by matched viewers. "Over 50 percent of our traffic comes via the recommendations system," says Hastings. "It requires a lot of database work done in real time."
While at the site early, early this morning I couldn't get any movie detail pages to load. I suppose this is why.

Yeah noticed that after watching King Arthur last night. Perhaps the new Friends roll-out is the cause? Am I the only one who all of sudden has a lot more Long Waits in my queue?

No Long Waits in my packed queue of 499, though a few more Short Waits popped up. The site as a whole is running slower today. A DVD that went up to "Shipping Today" about two hours ago is still listed in the # 1 spot in my queue.
