Blockbuster to Rent Sony PSP UMD Movies
Adam noticed that Blockbuster is starting to list Sony PlayStation Portable UMD movies for rental:
I just stumbled onto the fact that Blockbuster Online is listing the UMD version of "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie". It comes up as "Coming Soon" when you add it to the queue. I did a search for the letters "UMD" and that's all that came up, so it might be all they have for now.
Here's a screen capture:

It clearly shows "UMD" and "PSP," so they're definitely starting to carry UMD titles for rental.

Good to know that Blockbuster will be supporting the ludicrous "I want to watch a movie while waiting in line at the bank on a screen the size of a postage stamp" fad.

My local Tower Records had a bunch of these dumb things on display right next to the normal DVD new releases - for one week. The next week they didn't get any more in and the old ones were relegated to a lesser shelf.

How can you watch a movie outside or on the bus when it's daylight? I have enough trouble watching a movie in my living room with all the shades drawn in the day time.

Doesn't this completely dilute the point of watching movies... isn't the point that you get to be transportet to a different world for a little bit?
Watching a movie "on the go" means you are neither really present in this world or really able to engage in a movie? But, I don't own one of these things, so I don't know...

Glad to see BB taking a chance on UMDs. It's sure appeal to some group of people out there. Time will tell whether or not it's successful.

It is actually immensly appealing among early adopters.
personal video is the fast growing consumer electronics. faster than home theaters.
I stick my films on a sd card and my kid watches them on my treo in the car.

"If you haven't seen one of these . . . you shouldn't comment"?? Wow, now we can't even have opinions. How about "If you haven't seen on of these . . . check them out, they're cool!"

"If you havent seen one of these bad boys in action you shouldnt comment."
Who the hell are you to say who should, or shouldn't comment on something?

"...isn't the point that you get to be transportet to a different world..."
Sure, nice big screens are best, but have you ever been on an airplane for 10 hours?

These UMDs are great for long trips on the plane, or even long trips in the car. It keeps the side-seat driver busy.
And the video IS outstanding.

UMD are really awesome... Spiderman is outstanding picture. But 30 bucks and over for a movie is ridiculous. On my psp i would like to watch a movie once or twice max. Unless it was really good...i havent seen any movies expected on psps that are good. BUt i hope blockbuster sets up rentals for all the umds being realesed

If any of you have children, especially young boys, then you would know the value of traveling with one electronic device rather than five. If it keeps the "Are we there yet?"'s down to a min than I am all for them!!!
Can you rent these PSP movies from Netflix?

This machine is a dream come true for a person in my profession. Now I get to watch movies while I am on the plane whenever I wish. Too bad I could be spending that time preparing for the presentations I need to do.

i have a simple theory, psp owners love their system, those who can't afford it are the biggest bitchers&moaners about how it sucks so much(includes my friends)umd's are awesome&cost almost the same as dvd's & i rather have a psp over a portable dvd player in the same price range,as for movie's are made to take you away ¬ be on a smaller(yet beatiful)screen......ya,who would want to listen to portable music through inferior speakers(earphones)while walking? that's a stupid&pointless invention, music is meant to take you away.
kudos for blockbuster,i just hope the offer a mail return if your away longer than expected.

You can rent UMD's at gamefly.com that is the video game version of netflix. So join it and rent those UMD's and those PSP games that you are not sure if you want to buy

alrite for the people who are dissing the umd movies, sure they only play on the small psp screen. now i own a psp and i like to watch them b/c im not always at home and want to catch a movie on the go. it makes sense to rent umd movies b/c who wants to spend the same $ for a smaller format when u can get it on dvd. instead, renting lets u watch whatever u want wherever u want, and this is blockbuster ONLINE, which means i can drop that shit off in any mailbox in the country and never worry about going to the store again, except for my 2 free rentals a month from bb online. cool shit.
