Netflix Free Month Offer for "Friends & Family"
Netflix is sending out e-mails to members so they can invite friends and family to try Netflix for one month free:
Dear Mike,For a limited time, we're offering our valued members a special opportunity to give their friends and family one month of Netflix service for FREE--that's twice the length of our regular free trial!
This special offer expires 9/28/2005, and quantities are limited, so forward this email to your friends and family today!
-Your Friends at Netflix

Thanks to Michael and Kevin for sending this in.

It's too bad that Netflix won't give you something for the referal. I'd settle for an extra disc for free for a month - put me on the 4 out at a time plan for the price of the 3 out plan for a month.

smart! whoever is running this at netflix (hastings?), you are brilliant. Make the current subscribers become your salesmen.

I, for one, will not be one of their salesmen. If they want me to do something for them they need to do something for me. This also applies to Blckbuster.

I also will not send out the 1 month free email to any of my friends. They need to do some kind of payback to those that create new customers who stay for X number of months. Like when I create a new Shutterfly.com photo customer, we both get 15 free prints in our account, nice!

I passed it on to some friends -- Netflix is a good thing and they should have done a month free anyway...
Would be nice if they did a referral program that paid you back something - I think they'd have more success with it, but's not a bad deal regardless.

There's no need to wait for the email if you're a member. Just click the "Tell a Friend" image on the Netflix front page lower-right and you'll be offered the "one free month for your friend" deal.

I clicked the tell a friend link but it's only for two weeks. I got the email offer but I was weary of it because after my name is a weird symbol like those typically found in spam.

I guess I am the oddball of the pack. I didn't mind that they weren't offering something for referrals. With the outstanding service I have had with Netflix, those frivolous things don't matter to me. Heck, I would even be willing to PAY more for my service just because of how Netflix has treated me with the one day turn around time of DVDs and all. I DO think that:
1.) They should ship DVDs on the weekends. That would certainly be nice. I am not exactly thrilled about having to wait for my next DVD to ship on Monday, when the previous movie was RECEIVED on Friday. That is about 3 days turn around (*cough* Blockbuster *cough* *cough*).
2.) They should possibly run a promotion for a little while where the first month is free ANYWAY, not just two weeks. I think they would need to do some upgrades like I said in #1 and as well as other upgrades before they take on such an undertaking. If the customer service is outstanding all around, I think people would be less likely to cancel their service. Sure people would cancel but it would be their loss.
Blockbuster is having trouble and I can't help but laugh as I hear about them trying to save the company from going under (I can just see "Carl and Ray" drowning in a pool right now). Not because I am a former employee...(OK maybe a LITTLE), but because they have it coming to them. I hope Netflix blows them out of the water!!!
