Below is a completely misnformed opinion.

"It is my opinion that your Netflix bill will increase in the next year when they attempt to recover this money, should the increase in revenue from upgraded customers who fail to cancel not cover this multi-million dollar payout to the law firm."

I assure you, I'm well-informed, and I stand by my opinion that Netflix will recover this payout from subscribers one way or another.

Either the paid-if-you-don't-cancel upgrade will make it back, or they will raise their prices sooner than they would have otherwise.

Nothing comes for free.

I'll most likely opt out, as I have no need for a month of 5-out instead of 4, and I don't want Netflix to kill my discounted rate.

I find myself wondering if they'll manage to get other people on the pre-Blockbuster/WalMart 4 out price ($17.95 a month as opposed to $22.95) upgraded and then downgrade them at the higher price.

As was stated opting out might only void the current settlement. Which means that another settlement must be made or the case goes further into another judgement which of course means greater legal costs = even more for the lawyers. Of course netflix will have to cover its expenses no matter what they are by making it up by what it takes in from us the customers. You won't see any lowering of wages or benefits to make it up at the company level. For myself I think the suit is a sham to begin with and as usual only the lawyers benefit from it. I intend to do nothing since I didn't feel any wrong was done to me to make Netflix owe me anything. By doing nothing it will not add costs to Netflix which would probably result in added costs to me in the long run, not add additional legal costs to benefit only the lawyers and with the changes already made in the notice to the customers of how deliveries are made hopefully prevents the problem of the whiners in the future.

"I assure you, I'm well-informed, and I stand by my opinion that Netflix will recover this payout from subscribers one way or another."

And I assure you, your opinion is incorrect. Don't get me wrong, I can understand how you might come to that conclusion. But you are starting to sound like another paranoid "Netflix is out to get me" person. And that would be sad.

They won't incur any additional expenses, as they'll just throttle anyone who takes this settlement and pass the rest of the costs on to suckers who fail to down-grade and heavy users in general. They can always take from the people getting the most to off-set any unexpected costs or liabilities. Afterall, this law-suit is about their right to keep on throttling the heavy users. Don't expect anything to change. They settled to avoid change. It'll be business as usual just as soon as the settlement passes.
