I understand giving tribute but come on. The USPS is almost already a joke(have you been in one lately to send a package). Now they are going to give federal agencies the day off, as if they do not get enough. And some people wonder why the USPS loses money. Great idea!

BoB

Read a little better JW!, It's not JUST the USPS but ALL independent federal agencies which INCLUDES the USPS. It just happens to affect Netflix as the mail won't be delivered that that.

If you want to complain, complain to the federal government as a whole as it was NOT a USPS decision.

(But as a sidenote, my wife will get a 3-day weekend! Sun-Mon-Tues)!

Edward R Murrow

Fortunately, I have 3 discs from BBO that I can drop off and get DVD's right off the shelf at my local Blockbuster. No throttling by the USPS for me.

Manda

*sigh* Tuesday was supposed to be my first day back with Netflix in two months. Oh well, my TiVo will never forsake me!

CJ

Well, on Tuesday I'll be mourning the one and only James Brown, major innovator in the field of music, rather than yet another politician who nobody will remember ten years from now. I'd say Mr Brown is a good reason to have a Postal Holiday - maybe there'll even be a stamp some day ...

Jesus, I gotta get a govt job. They get more days off than a freakin' banker.

corey3rd

I'm hanging onto my BBOTAs to swap 'em out on Tuesday and get me some Motherf'n Snakes on a Plane.

Rusty Ramrod

"Jesus, I gotta get a govt job. They get more days off than a freakin' banker."

Even worse, search and look at Postal workers pay scales. Very anger inducing. Our one-toothed mail carrier makes more than I ever did in the corporate world with a Master's, has outstanding insurance, and will be set for life when he retires at, oh, 50 or so.

That said I would never lower anyone down to a bankers level. They are bottom feeding leeches, produce nothing of value, simply expensive suit wearing, schmoozing parasites living off the hard work and good fortune of others.

"I'm hanging onto my BBOTAs to swap 'em out on Tuesday and get me some Motherf'n Snakes on a Plane."

I heard that. Same here, I have 2 BBOTA's coming tommorrow. Snakes will be possibly the worst movie ever made, but I still want to see it.

HypoPig

Cry me a river..you can wait an extra day for a freaking movie. Go to the theater if you're jonesin' that badly. See that DVD you received as a present.

"another politician who nobody will remember ten years from now" uhh..yeah. The only man not elected as VP or President. The man who ended Vietnam and pardoned Nixon. The man who gave Chevy Chase a career. Brown will get his stamp, but Ford will get his next July. Still waiting for that John Lennon stamp.

Netfilx is the bomb! The key is to get a great customer service person - they can credit your account, add in free rentals and help you out if you are having problems with your account.

In regards to the TV rentals where someone had posted that Netflix was ripping off with those rentals - I went into Blockbuster and wanted to rent the Lost Season 2 - there were 7 dvd's I had to rent at $3.99 a piece. Went to Netflix, signed up for their one dvd at a time no limit per month for $9.99 iwth a 2 week free trial and was able to watch all 7 dvd's for $9.99 in one month as compared to Blockbuster at $3.99 x 7 rentals for a total of $27.93. How was I ripped off by Netflix?? I was ripped off by Blockbuster!!!!

vio

Get a clue moviediva. Things have changed GREATLY with Blockbuster in just a couple of months. Netflix isn't even the same league with Blockbuster anymore. Please take a minute out of your "busy schedule" and read this, so you can understand what Total Access is and how it works:

http://www.blockbuster.com/totalaccess

This is the real deal. I use it myself and it delivers everything it promises. No false advertising, no strings attatched here. Just unlimited online AND in-store rentals for the same price as Netflix.

"The only man not elected as VP or President."

George W. Bush was never elected President. He was appointed by the Supreme Court. Gore won the popular vote. Plus, both elections were rigged by Republicans. Since he never had a valid election, you can't say that his "re-election" was any more valid. He should have been impeached for what he did in his first year, but instead we impeach over BJs.

"The man who ended Vietnam and pardoned Nixon. The man who gave Chevy Chase a career."

I don't see how any of those except Vietnam were good. It's hard to make out your point and seems that you forgot to have one. Dick Nixon should have gone to prison and should have shared a cell with Reagan and Bush Sr.

type-cast

"No false advertising, here. Just unlimited online AND in-store rentals for the same price as Netflix."

They limit the online just like Netflix, and this limits in-store rentals. I am unable to get more than 15 a month on 3-out. It's good until you run out of things to rent from the store. Also, the new releases are often gone by Tuesday night. Good luck getting anything that's not Guaranteed In-Stock. Total Access has increased demand more than supply.

Oh Great! I live in Colorado and we were snowed in last week and didn't get mail for 2 days. (didn't get any of my Christmas presents for my family which were backordered for 2 months until the 27th!) Yesterday same thing, more snow dumped no mail. Now we have the holiday on Monday and now no mail on Tuesday. That's 5 days with no mail and I'm STILL waiting on Christmas presents which were shipped out on the 20th!)And no Netflix either, that's just the straw!

kolohe61

Why did they have to do this on this particular day, the day after a holiday? Why not the next Monday? Three consecutive days of no mail is inconvenient for most, and possibly disruptive for businesses.

scotty321

This is truly unbelievably RIDICULOUS.

BoB

"Why did they have to do this on this particular day, the day after a holiday? Why not the next Monday? Three consecutive days of no mail is inconvenient for most, and possibly disruptive for businesses."

Because, again, it was not a USPS decision but an executive order signed by your president, George W. Bush, authorizing the day as a federal holiday as a national day of morning.

Take it up with the White House if you do not like it. Oh, and by the way, it will be Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 15th, another federal holiday - no USPS delivery.

vio

"Because, again, it was not a USPS decision but an executive order signed by your president, George W. Bush, authorizing the day as a federal holiday as a national day of morning."

I take offense with this comment. That idiot is NOT my president! He never received a single vote from me or any of my friends/family.

Just for the record. :)

corey3rd

I dropped by my post office this afternoon to send out stuff on the final Saturday pick up. They didn't have a sign up saying anything about being shut down on Tuesday. They had their seasonal holiday schedule that had Monday being a no mail day.

Edward R Murrow

"Because, again, it was not a USPS decision but an executive order signed by your president, George W. Bush, authorizing the day as a federal holiday as a national day of morning."

George has taken more vacations during his time in office than most people take in their entire careers.

Same here. I am sure, however he got ALL of the votes cast by the top brass at the oil companies.

Ok, I did look it up. As of Spetember 2006 yearly salary ranged from $37,995 to $50,317.

Why am I not impressed?

kolohe61

"Because, again, it was not a USPS decision but an executive order signed by your president, George W. Bush, authorizing the day as a federal holiday as a national day of morning."

USPS is not a government agency, so they didn't have to comply as far as I know. The whole government could have chosen another day, too.

kolohe61

P.S. Bush isn't my president either. LOL

Ho hum. It was I who made the comment about Netflix and the first season of Big Valley and it seems nobody wanted to read what I originally wrote or just ignored it. Instead one person used it to shill for Blockbuster, now another is using the same comment to shill for netflix. Go figure. I said it was one minor quibble with Netflix and the only complaint I had with them. But no matter how much I like Netflix, making you rent ten DVD's when there should only be five stinks, and that's that and I'm not going to dwell on it.

As for the comparison you make here, you're comparing on-line rentals to in-store rentals. The only thing I care about is how the on-line service of either company performs. And you know as well as I do that you could have rented the same discs from BBO also and that's the comparison you should have made. The same comparison I'm about to make.

Because no matter how many people continue to come on here and blow the Blockbuster horn about Total Access, the fact remains that their on-line rental service stinks in just about every category possible. True, I only needed five rentals for The Big Valley, but it would take me twice as long to get them if I could even get them (and that's always a pretty big if) from Blockbuster so it balances out.

But if they are paying you guys good commissions let me know and I'll shill for them. A buck is a buck. As for the Postal Service being closed an extra day, it won't make much difference to me at all. And Bush isn't my President either.

XVarX

I do not fault the Postal Service, or any other sector, public or private, that chooses to designate a day off in observance of the death of a President of the United States.

I may not agree with policies and decisions of many of the recent Presidents, but I do have a great deal of respect for the office and the responsibilities these men choose to take on.

As the head of the executive branch of our government, they take a sacred duty to not just see that the laws of the land are enacted, but to make sure our freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution are safeguarded.

Many fall short, but I respect every last one of them for taking the mantle and doing what they feel is their responsibility to this nation.

One less day of certain government services is hardly an inconvenience in comparison to the life of public service give this country by Gerald Ford.

corey3rd

well since Ford didn't serve a full term, they should only get a half day off.

Tester

@XVarX;

"...I do have a great deal of respect for the office and the responsibilities these men choose to take on."

I too have a great deal of respect for the office. I do not however have ANY respect for the current person holding that office (I won't dignify him by mentioning his name).

I did have some respect for former President Ford and I have no problem honoring him the way it's being done.

Hey - I'm a man and I've not been elected as VP or President!

"I take offense with this comment. That idiot is NOT my president! He never received a single vote from me or any of my friends/family."

Who is *your* president then ?? Majority rules, like it or not... Using your logic, if *your* congressional reps didn't vote for a law, then that law doesn't apply to you.

Tester

@hall;

While I can't speak for anyone else here I will say that I believe, with all of my heart, that king george took the first election because of the BS that was pulled on the people in Florida by his half-assed brother jeb! He, (george), has caused our nation nothing but problems, except for his bastard cronies whom he has made richer then they had been because of him screwing the average working person.

As far as I am concerned george, cheany, rumsfeld, and the rest of his half-assed group can KISS MY ASS!

If you don't agree with me that's OK. This country still has the freedom to disagree with each other. Although if king george had his way we wouldn't have it.

Even the late former President Gerald Ford disagreed with a lot of what george-the-ass has been doing.

Btw...I have purposely not capitalized the names of those pathetic wads. I don't believe they deserve it.

As someone else here said; it is unbelievable that they can impeach someone for getting a BJ but they don't impeach george...and he is screwing the country!

Hunter McDaniel

It's really sad how much bitterness there is in politics these days, as evidenced by many of the comments above. And it doesn't take much to set people off, it seems. But aren't we supposed to be talking about DVD rentals here?

With the compressed work week from two days of USPS closure and heavy returns after holiday DVD-viewing, I expect a lot more people than usual will get "Shipping tomorrow" this week.

vio

"Who is *your* president then ?? Majority rules, like it or not... Using your logic, if *your* congressional reps didn't vote for a law, then that law doesn't apply to you."

Technically speaking, Al Gore. It was he who received my vote in 2000 and it is he who REALLY won the election. The Supreme Courts decision was wrong, plain and simple.

But for remainder of this Lame Duck's time in office, I shall consider myself "presidentless." I absolutely refuse to acknowledge that war-mongering piece of monkey crap as my president. Thank you very much!

If the USA ever introduces compulsory voting then these brain-dead slobs would never get voted in. Until then it is just the way it is going to be as most people don't even vote (but will gripe about the president).

As for the mail this will be disruptive to my small business but I will egt over it. I don't pay taxes to the US fed govt. so I can't really complain about their inefficient mail service.

That is why you will never see compulsory voting here in the USA.

I am proud to say that in my 38+ years of being able to vote I have only missed voting in one election and it was not a presidential election.

Doesnt matter. We dont elect Presidents by popular vote. Only by electoral votes.

Conspiracy and sore loser garbage. If that were possible, the Dems shouldnt have won both the house and Senate this past election. (or did the Dems learn the proper place where to kick the diebold machines? ;-))

No, we impeach over perjury to a Grand Jury.

It was a proper decision. You dont like it because it did not produce the outcome you prefered.

I think they still would get in. People who do not vote, are not exactly much smarter than the people who do.

"Until then it is just the way it is going to be as most people don't even vote"

I used to work as an election observer at the polls. And the biggest turnout we would get would be on Presidential elections where only 50 percent of Registered voters would show up to vote.

Thats right. Even REGISTERED voters dont show up to vote. Some vote by absentee ballot, but thats because they cant get to the polls on election day for whatever reason. But some were just to lazy to show up. My landlord for example, I knew he was home on election day, I knew he was a registered voter, but he never came to the polling place to vote.

bmovies

PS: Please do not bother to show up to Vote in 2008. We Republicans have fixed the Diebold problems that caused the 2006 mid-term elections. ;-)

enough politics. It seems that the folks at my DC are processing returns today. The DVDs I put in the mail on Friday and Saturday have been received.
