The biggest problem I noticed (other than the wooden narration, that is) was the music. Goes to show how powerful John Williams' score was - that creepy synthetic stuff just doesn't make the grade.

You think that's bad - check out one of the original drafts of the script - The Adventures of The Starkiller. He's got 6 brothers, his dad and Darth Vader actually are two different people, Threepio is a good shot with a gun, Chewbacca is a wimp, Grand Moff Tarkin is a good guy, etc. etc. Awful dialogue.

What? All trailers from that time were awful. I remember seeing this in '77 and thinking it was going to be the greatest movie ever. However, if I saw that same trailer today I would think it was for some low-budget 3rd rate movie and probably not watch it at all.

I doesn't feel bad so much as dated.
I'll admit the kitschy line 'a billion years in the making' made me cringe.

Just goes to show what a horrible writer and director George Lucas is. Star Wars was just an accident. Empire was good, because George didn't write it or direct it. Jedi was a big flop, thanks to Lucas's co-writing. Prequels and special editions were worthless. Lucas's consistent lack of talent and taste is truly stunning. The prequels & SEs make me cringe.
