Netflix Website Down

Update: At 11:30am the Netflix website is back up and ratings appear to be working.

Prozac, Joshua, and Peter reported that the Netflix website is down for "scheduled maintenance" (at 9am PT?), and is expected to be back online in about 30 minutes at 10:45 (PT).

Netflixsitedown2

It could be a bug or problem with the star ratings. Dusty and Wextrix reported a proble with ratings: "Any ideas what happened to the stars on Netflix? I went in to rate a movie today and I couldn't find the stars to any of the movies anywhere. I reloaded IE and firefox to no avail. Its not even like the column is loading as there is no header for it."

Netflix typically updates the website on Thursday nights, so this could also be a late update.

I just got my netflix today and received a copy of Dangerous Liaisons (was never in my quene, I've never even heard of the movie)instead of Survivor: Pearl Islands Disc 4, which shows up as being at my home. Probably not part of the bug, but because the site is down I called Netflix and got through right away. Excellent customer service! The kind lady was able to ship my correct DVD today and made a note on my account. It might have been one of the best customer service call I've ever had. I hope the website goes back up soon though.

The ratings and the reviews have been messed up for at least a week. Some of my reviews have disappeared!

The star ratings were down yesterday for a long time (several hours). They were up again last night but the site has been down all morning at least since 8:30 am PST when I checked it.

lizardqi, Dangerous Liaisons is a great film, do yourself a favor and check it out.

I never got the bonus DVD I was promised via E-mail (due to the fact my movies were delayed). No big deal but I called this morning to clarify it and like lizardgi, I had avery pleasant talk with the customer service guy and was told I would get the dvd.

I noticed the problem with the stars yesterday too, but I thought it was only a small glitch. Perhaps this is a bigger issue. It's kinda amusing that the closer you get to the time it'll be back, they change the time.

"Looks as if BB should have copied Netflix even more closely, their innovations have adversely affected 85% of customers" - hueristix

Hey hueristix, perhaps Blockbuster did copy Netflix closer than we initally believed since the Netflix site was out due to a software bug.

The usual suspects that posted so vociferously on the "Blockbuster Bug Leaves Customers Without Movies" topic are strangely quiet today. Perhaps they can't post because they're too busy bringing the Netflix website back up?

"Sorry, but only California can deliver the very best top notch IT programming. Among other things. Flame away, but look at Apple, Google, etc., as you attempt to counter."

So, now we all know of the quality of IT programmers from CA. As a matter of fack, only 4% of computer users use Apple computers. Actually this computer maker is seeing the light of the day cause of their ipods. Google is an exception till we see another brilliant google employee come out with a new search engine that we will all love to use.

actually the above quoted text came from Mr. Hueristix.

At least Netflix shipped our DVDs. Call me crazy, but I think there's a wee difference between having your site down for a few hours for scheduled maintenance and not shipping any DVDs for a week, while your CS reps tell people to add more movies to their queue. I mean, really, are you so desperately in denial about BB's inevitable implosion that you have to grasp at straws? Have fun standing in line at the store!

my DVDs weren't shipped by Netflix. i had 2 that were 'shipping today' on Thursday that were still 'shipping today' after the site came back up on Friday. probably not related, but the first time that's happened to me.

"At least Netflix shipped our DVDs."

For light users, maybe. Teavy users watched Netflix pretend not to receive their discs.

"I mean, really, are you so desperately in denial about BB's inevitable implosion that you have to grasp at straws?

Have you an axe to grind, or are you just a flack who doesn't think Netflix can stand a little competition? Your Chicken Little act is old. Go count your eggs, er, chickens.

"Have fun standing in line at the store!"

I've never stood in line at the store, cuz I don't go there at peak times. Enjoy watching nothing, when Netflix sends you a broken or mis-labeled disc. I'll be trading it in, and getting something else the same day. I will also be able to get movies on Saturdays and Sundays and holidays, while Netflix shut-ins are enjoying their couch.

Sharpen your Netflix axe. It's getting dull.

Ah, it just wouldn't be a normal week without unibomber-in-training type-cast slipping off his lithium into another paroxysm of manic dementia. Type-cast, your meta-opinions are getting to be as tiresome as they are childish.

"For light users, maybe. Teavy users watched Netflix pretend not to receive their discs."

Has that happened recently? I'm not saying Netflix is perfect. I'm saying that I think there is no comparison between a site being down for a couple of hours due to scheduled maintenance and a company's mail-order division shutting down completely for about a week and lying to its customers before being forced to come clean. Maybe you should pay more attention before spouting your usual inanities.

"Have you an axe to grind, or are you just a flack who doesn't think Netflix can stand a little competition? Your Chicken Little act is old."

I have made it perfectly clear in the past that I like BB because they provide competition for Netflix (although I certainly didn't enjoy their service, or lack of). It's just some of BB's fanatical customers and their wild-eyed ravings that I'm not so crazy about (not you, of course!). And if BB isn't in financial trouble, please explain last year's fiscal loss (that means they lost money; they made less than they spent) and this year's pending price increase.

"Enjoy watching nothing, when Netflix sends you a broken or mis-labeled disc."

This happens so rarely it's not a factor. And who's really watching nothing: the Netflix guy who wasn't able to log into his site for a couple of hours, or the BB guy who didn't get movies for a week? Is that really your best argument?

"I will also be able to get movies on Saturdays and Sundays and holidays, while Netflix shut-ins are enjoying their couch."

You won't be getting them if BB doesn't ship them to you, and if you don't have envelopes, what are you going to trade in for a free movie? Of course, you can always pay for a rental, but so can anyone else.

"I've never stood in line at the store, cuz I don't go there at peak times."

Obviously. For the rest of us who have JOBS, we aren't always able to avoid the rush.
