Disappearing Watch Now Titles

WatchnowremovedTom writes, "A few weeks ago I started watching Dead Like Me Season 1 on Netflix's Watch It Now service. I went back today to finish up the first season and start on the second only to find that it is now unavailable! Season 2 is still available, but Season 1 is no where to be found. I wonder what the reasoning is behind this? Has anyone else noticed if they've removed any other shows/movies from the service which, in my opinion, suffers from a severe lack of quality movies?

Unlike DVDs, which only go out of print, some Watch Now titles will only be available for a short period of time, depending on the whim of the studios as they experiment with downloads.

Man, that's really crappy. Way to sustain interest in your product.

I haven't noticed that but it makes me want to finish watching the TV shows I started quickly.

Expect more of the same. This is one of many problems with downloads. Several songs I got from eMusic in the past aren't available any more. You might lose access to things at any time. Nothing is guaranteed. Enjoy it, while it lasts. I'll just wait for the DVD.

This got me thinking, what happens to older smaller release movies that, after being available, only have the option to Save?

Are they really going to get new copies of old movies with small demand? Or are they gone forever like the disappearing downloads?
