Netflix has quietly launched a new community blog to interact with customers.
Hello. Welcome to the Netflix Community Blog, brought to you by the team that is building the social elements of the Netflix site. I'm Michael, the director of this motley crew of rabid movie fans who also happen to be engineers, designers, and so on. We hope this will be a great forum for us to talk about what we are doing, and for you to tell us what you think.

Cool; I don't think they will be your competition in any way; this blog is way too established. I'll RSS it though!

The following is from their site;
"Every person at Netflix is going to have a profile -- automatically created. We will automatically generate an anonymous nickname, and give you a nifty-but-generic avatar image."
To me, that is a way to inflate the figures pertaining to blog membership.
LET ME MAKE THE DECISION TO JOIN OR NOT JOIN THEIR BLOG! WHAT'S NEXT? ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE THE DECISION ON WHAT MOVIES I CAN RENT? IF THEY SEE SOMETHING IN MY QUEUE THAT THEY FEEL I SHOULD NOT GET ARE THEY GOING TO REMOVE IT?
I see nothing wrong with Netflix having a blog, but I do see something wrong with them creating an account for me without my permission.

Hey Tester...I think that is just referring to the new friend's update on the Netflix site. Blog membership isn't required at blogspot.com.

jdsully8:
You might be right but if that is the case why would they give "everyone" an "anonymous nickname", and an "avatar image" if you aren't going to participate in the blog?

It looks to me like the blog is to support the new community features on Netflix, not the other way around. Notice how it's called the "Netflix Community Blog," in other words, a blog about the Netflix community.
