Benjamin writes, "I recently brought my laptop with me to Argentina on a five week trip. Since I would have high speed internet in the apartment I was renting, I thought that my Netflix Instant Viewing hours would be great for movie viewing. It turns out that this is not possible from outside the US. Here is the message I get when accessing Instant Viewing while logged on to my Netflix account in Argentina:
Instant viewing is not available outside the USOur systems indicate that the computer you are using is not located within the 50 United States or District of Columbia. The instant viewing feature is available only on computers in those locations.
I bet that it's a combination of concerns over network speed and limited rights outside of the U.S. I wonder if it would work through a proxy server or some other trick?
I had the same message during my last 5 weeks in Germany, in an Internet Cafe. I didn't even want to watch any films (at 1.49 euros an hour for the connection time) but just wanted to see whether any new ones had been put in my "From Your DVD Queue" box, as I had watched all the 4 or 5 available on Watch Now from my queue of 410, and I knew more would be added to the Watch Now option every month. No deal!

If you were to use a proxy server it might throw the server off as to where your location is. But then you are still relying on the speed of the proxy server.
Last I checked its not easy to find speedy free proxy servers.

Also, if the filter pings down any server outside of the US it will deny the service. It is a common problem for people who live near the canadian border. They live in Minnesota, Montana, ect. and can get their signals routed up through Canada. So unless you can find a way to get many proxies, it wont work.

Proxy servers are a pain, and rarely work right for Netflix for me. I'm watching instantly in Canada right now, using Hotspot Shield.

Robert I'm Canadian and would love to be able to use NetFlix but how do you get around a Canadian billing location and a Canadian Credit card?

I've tried the proxy available here and it works fine for NetFlix. A trial download is available to try it out:

Is this still working after Netflix closed a loophole in Q4 of last year?

Does Netflix instant viewing work from foreign countries?
I'm leaving away for a while and I wonder if it's possible to connect to Netflix instant viewing from a non-US connection.

I live in Europe and I have been using the Netflix app on the iPad and iPhone since it came out. It is not hard to get it working and I have written a guide on the steps needed here: http://thomasfals.com/how-to-use-netflix-on-the-iphone-from-outside-the-us/

unblocking Netflix is actually pretty easy with a good VPN. Check out the articles here: http://vpnfreedom.com/category/netflix/
