Netflix Updates Trademark to Include "Set Top Boxes"
TradeMork (via SlashGear) reports that Netflix has filed an update to the Netflix trademark that includes coverage for "set top boxes:"
Computer hardware, set top boxes and computer software, namely audio and video receivers and transmitters and computer software programs enabling receipt, download, playing, viewing, and rental of audio and video programming through the use of internet connections to computer hardware and receiver and transmitter apparatuses that connect to a television set or monitor.
Here's the original 1997 filing for the term Netflix, and the filing for the logo in 2001.
Thanks to Eric for sending this in.

Nice idea, but I refuse to have yet another box. A Tivo and Xbox is enough for my entertainment system. If they could "port" the software to someone who already makes a box, then I'd be for it for sure. We'll see what happens...

Comcast, DirecTV, Tivo, etc. have already done it. Game over.

Comcast is $65/month. Netflix is less than $20.
Slap a dvd drive in this thing, internet-enable it for watch in now, till it for $50-$100 and count the cash.
Launch would coincide of course with added content for the service.
Also don't forget the features that were previewed in the Silverlight release for Watch Now.
Oh, and most people don't have Tivo's. Tivo's only record what you already have.

Just make the software work with MCE and I will use. I don't want another box.

"Launch would coincide of course with added content for the service"
Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. I missed the current episode of Weeds Season 3 on Showtime last night so I'll do the Comcast On Demand thing tonight whenever it's convenient.
After that, I'll watch the Red Sox/Indians playoff game on Tivo since I missed that. Oh yeah, and I'll FF through the commercials.
I guess with the Netflix Watch Now, you'll have to wait for Season 3 of Weeds to be released on DVD and you'll have to wait until hell freezes over to watch a baseball playoff game on Netflix Watch Now.

Are you going to be a dumb ass for Halloween?

Hmm, you're clearly off your meds yet again. Calm yourself down.

um, firstlaw, I think halloween costumes are supposed to be the opposite of what someone is the other 364 days of the year.

If you haven't figured this out yet, I don't take anyone or anything seriously.
"Are you going to be a dumb ass for Halloween?"
Heck no, I'm going to be a horses ass!

No I remember...you're a rule breaker / sacred cow slayer. You take nothing seriously when you're stumped.
Quick...what's the best way to see weeds season 1 without buying it?

ahem...
It's Comcast TV Rate Hike Season, Again:
On the heels of cable TV rate hikes in Houston, Comcast today alerted customers in Lancaster, PA that they'll be raising the price of their standard cable TV package by 6.9 percent and their "bare bones" TV package by 12.5 percent. Premium channels are getting bumped by $1, the price of installation is being bumped by 4.4% percent, and their DVR service is now 16.7% more expensive.

"You take nothing seriously when you're stumped."
Ya, I'm stumped about a goofy business that sends DVD's through the mail with wafer thin margins. Wafer thin margins that are getting chewed up by out of control costs.

Join us in the year 2007 and start enjoying Weeds Season 3 using Comcast's On Demand. Weeds Season 1 is now in the genre of 'Classic'.

you sure seem like you've got something to prove for someone who takes nothing seriously, (especially when it comes to promoting an awesome pro-consumer business like CONcast):

how's that horses ass costume workin' out edward?

I'm guessing that I'm the only one posting in this thread who doesn't drink the Netflix kool-aid? The great thing about capitalism is that we get choices.
"how's that horses ass costume workin' out edward?"
I had to have it dry cleaned when I picked up from you since it was a complete mess. Looks like you forgot your adult diapers yet again and pooped yourself. My plan is to position my girlfriend in the front part of the horse costume and I will, of course, be the horses ass. I'll do my best to get all traces of our DNA out of your horse costume before I return it.

Feeding the troll only results in more and more troll crap. *Don't* feed the troll.

"*Don't* feed the troll"
Is that the directive from Netflix Corporate HQ?
