I wish they'd included a little etymology. I'd like to know where the terms grip, gaffer and foley come from. Were they terms borrowed from other industries, or do they have a more direct meaning? If borrowed, where did that industry get them? Did a grip actually use to grip something?
FWIW: Foley seems to come from Jack Foley, one of the first sound effects editors. But still, how did the term come into use? Why aren't they just called sound effect editors?
PS. Someone once told me a key grip was the person on the set who had all the keys.

Hey gir, check out wikipedia. They have the etymology of the other terms you mentioned. Glad you asked the question - that was interesting!
By the way, you can also get information on key grip & best boy in a different format by going to yahoo and searching for "Biff's question song by Tom Wilson" (yep, the guy from Back to the Future.) Funny!

I swear on a stack of DVDs I only clicked "Post" once. How very embarrassing - my apologies to all!

Very good day to everyone. My name is James, I would firstly like to thank the creators of the blog for allowing me to express my opinion. Any friend or acquaintance I would recommend this article, is great, effective, comprehensive and dynamic. I was very young I have always admired people who are dedicated to reporting and writing on public issues, I think they are very special, just the fact that they are dedicated to publishing articles for everybody and that is admirable.

Any thoughts on the reverse hyperextension and it's carryover into the deadlift?I will say this, close grip benching had a detrimental effect on my ring dips, which leads me to believe that both movements would be beneficial for the Press.
