This would be great if only I could use it. I wish Netflix would work more on extending Watch Instantly to people with older systems (XP pre-System Pack 2) or people using Macs.

Super-Bat-Man

I used it to watch hereos a few times when I missed it on tv. but I'd much rather watch a blu-ray dvd upscaled with surround sound in my ps3, or even better watch a blu-ray. I always have 1-3 dvds laying around that I can "watch instantly."

Maybe if they get teh current season of the office on there I will start watching again.

David

For those of us who aren't on Netflix, is there a list somewhere of those 6,000 titles? I'm with Blockboster now (ex-Netflixter), and I'm tempted to go back.

Hebby

I thought there was one a while back. I searched this site and came up with the following. Not sure how up to date it is.
http://netflixwatchnow.blogspot.com/2007/08/watch-now-list-20070801-2421-movies.html

Im Not A Turnip

I watch anywhere from 0 to 20 hours a month.

Within Watch Now is a section that shows your usage. A note there says:

"Your monthly time to watch instantly will be reset to 10030 hours (30 hours as part of your membership and 10000 credit hours) when your next month of service begins on 12/29/2007."

I love the concept of Watch Now, but the title selection is awful. 95% of the movies are ones you've never heard of and are appropriately placed in the bargain bin at wal-mart

Spiky

I just got upgraded to the unlimited Watch Now...I guess I got upgraded because I never use it.

igj

I use it on business trips and end up watching TV series - I've watched the Dick Van Dyke Show, 30 Rock, Coupling and some of the Law & Order series. Since I order discs exclusively to be watched with my GF, I sometimes use the Watch Instantly to see things on my own - I recently watched an interesting documentary called Hiding and Seeking in that situation. All that said, I haven't used the service this month at all... feast or famine in usage?

Able-X

I hardly every use it, because it's not mac compatible. I sometimes use it in my office if i'm working late at night though, but other than that it's just not useful due to lack of compatibility.

I am actually much happier with the selection now. There are now around 15-20 films available for Watch Now that I have been meaning to watch compared to, say, 4 months ago where there none. My problem is finding the time to get around to them. I watch mailed DVDs pretty much same day/next day I get them, otherwise I catch up on TiVo. I only seem to get around to using Watch Now when I travel or am on holiday...

So I disagree that the selection is still awful. There are a bunch of great documentaries, some 70s/80s cinema you may have heard of but never saw, a few indies and foreign films, a couple TV series. I'll be happy to give specific recommendations if anyone is interested. But if you are expecting recent popular films or all-time classics you'll obviously be disappointed.

I've watched up to 15 hours a month of Watch Instantly.

I've not received the unlimited hours e-mail. It wouldn't make a difference with me as I've never used more than half my time.

I watched two films yesterday on Watch Instantly, as I'd mailed all my dvds back and was staying home with a cold and taking it easy. I saw "Hamsun" with Max von Sydow, and it was outstanding, and so was "Marnie" with Sean Connery and Tippie Hedren (Melanie Griffith's mother).

Rose

I was surprised to receive the email! I've been averaging about 10 'watch it now' hours a month & flip my three weekly.

scotters83

I was one of the people that reported this, so therefore I am getting the email. I was using it often a couple of months ago and took a break from it. But I always had about 4 hours left before the month was over anyway. Cool either way!

List

Using just the blog URL http://netflixwatchnow.blogspot.com/ , instead of the longer URL in the previous comment, will give the most recent version of the blog owner's alphabetical list of "watch now" movies.

CJ

Haven't gotten the e-mail (probably never will) and also notice my Watch Now still has the monthly time limit.

As of a few days ago, I stopped getting e-mails from NF. Something about my Time Warner RoadRunner e-mail address being invalid - an address I've had for almost 10 years now (7 with NF) and works perfectly everywhere else.

Of course NF (Customer Service) says it's a Time Warner problem, They're kicking it back. And Time Warner says it's a NF problem, they aren't blocking anything. Frustrating to say the least...

So I guess I'll use Hacking Netflix to keep up on the news.

Jeff R.

I'd enjoy the change.

I mainly use watch now for TV series'. I had to order a couple of Heroes DVDs so that I wouldn't run out this month. The selection is getting substantially better though.

It would be nice to get the unlimited addition, but it probably won't change my watch now viewing activity much at all.

Brian

The biggest problem with Watch Instantly is that it doesn't provide Closed Captions. This is a horrible way to treat hearing impaired customers.

Dean

I think it's past due for them to recognize that Mac customers want to use Watch Now. I've always felt that Netflix was kind of a "hip" technology, one which is heavily patronized by Mac users, so why are they so behind the times?

gir

There's an old adage in the computer industry: never build what you can buy.

I'm sure NetFlix is just waiting for the next version (the first "real" version?) of Silverlight. That will give them cross-platform capability. I presume it'll also give them video overlay (i.e. subtitle/caption) support. Foreign movies won't be much good to us English-only viewers without overlays.

Of course, they'll also need to get the overlays from somewhere (either permission to pull them from a DVD or directly from the content providers) so it may not be a done deal even with Silverlight.

I've been a Netflix subscriber since '00 and am grandfathered in @ 4 discs out at a time for $17.99. I've used "Watch Instantly" every month, but have never come close to using up the alloted hours. I did not get the e-mail changing my access to unlimited either, but since I'm not pushing the time envelope, it doesn't really matter. I presume that Netflix offers this service in order to compete with Blockbuster's "Total Access" program. Sine BB is raising prices for unlimited "total" access, I would assume that Netflix might either reduce the alloted hours provided to it's members or bump their price up a bit. I'm curious as to what they're planning to to in that regard.

I am a netflix customer sense 01,
I did recieve an email about 10,000 hours a month
which is no way possible to watch
actually with my 3 movie plan i have 10,017 hours a month
so they give me total access,
I usally burn up the 17 hours at work and I am able to view unlimited as of this billing cycle at least according to what I read.

One of the reasons I signed back up with Netflix is the Watch Now feature. It was great for a few months. Now it wants me to update to WMP 11 which I can't do. I was using up all my viewing time every month and now I can't watch a thing. It really pisses me off and I'm ready to cancel the account. If you know a way around this please let me know.

Pete

Yeah it would be nice but all of a sudden it does not work!!! It worked before Christmas and now it doesn't work!

Joseph Nagle

For the last few months I have been watching Netflix online with no problems. Now since this morning I get the following message. http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/9400/netflixsi9.jpg

I downloaded IE 7 and removed IE 8. I can now go back to Netflix.

It is understandable that money can make us free. But how to act if someone has no cash? The only one way is to try to get the mortgage loans or just collateral loan.
