As part of the restructuring plan, Movie Gallery will close an additional 400 stores. Movie Gallery currently has 3,890 stores under the Movie Gallery, Hollywood Video, and Game Crazy brands.
"The decision to close stores is always difficult, but we are confident that we are taking the right steps to emerge from bankruptcy as a stronger company, better positioned for long-term success," chief executive Joe Malugen said in a statement.
Blockbuster, Redbox, Netflix and others will benefit from fewer video stores.

But will consumers?

Considering the general quality of management, selection and employees at the Hollywood Video in my town, I'd say yes.

"...better positioned for long-term success," -- Not as long as they depend upon traffic and today's kids in their stores. Not to denigrate the current crop, but a lot of kids do not have a clue when it comes to customer relations and that will kill a business quicker than almost anything else.

Wow, I thought it was just my local Hollywood Video store. They rearranged the store layout once and the shelves were such a mess that I told the manager I'd be back after they alphabetized. I said it again TEN MONTHS later after it appeared they had not made any progress. Too bad, they have always had a wider selection and lower pricing than BB.

Bizarrely, my town has a Movie Gallery and a Hollywood Video within site of each other. I wonder if they'll finally close one of them.

its no wonder they are going under , not to mention that they have a bad management structure , and have unqualified people to be in management , they also have several pending legal actions against them for various things , including age discrimination towards older workers, unfortunately the customers are always the ones to pay for those types of mistakes.

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6704474.html?q=Movie+Gallery
www.videobusiness.com then type movie gallery in the search. Click on the link about 450 movie gallery stores closing by years end.
Everyone who is interested in store closings should rant at that link. Tell us where your store is or was and what bs you have heard. 10 years I spent working my tail off for the company and got screwed overnight.
The store closings will continue. Noone is safe. The CEO is like the Wallstreet thieves and should be ties and quartered.

I am a Movie Gallery employee and Have been one for the past 9 years and yes we do have some problems. But it is not managment every one here do not know what we go through as employees. I love this company because while woking for them me and my family had two house firers and the company sent me and my family a check both times to help us out. Not to mention several managers. the blame for the change in the walls come not from our decision but from the DM's who tell us that's how they want the wall to look. As an employee I too liked when the wall was alphabetized. I was a lot more neater and easy to keep up with then came this powerplay idea which is not working out for us but the have put our jobs on the line because of it. When you have endure threaths and miss treatments from your DM's then your managment skill shrink under pressurer. I must apologize that you all have not had good services at your local stores but the pressurer from these upper management types is the reason why we are all suffering. If given half the chance a happy empolyee can help us endure and become a better company.

I for one, love my Movie Gallery in town. I was sad to hear that they're closing. As of now, they're going through their liquidation sale. Everytime I went into that store, I could speak to them as if I'd known them for years (technically, I've been going there for years). They'd gladly give me thoughts on movie rentals, etc. I am one who goes for the "human interaction". Forget netflix and redbox...we're so reliant on computers anymore...it's scary. I have always liked Movie Gallery... and will continue to stand by them. They were a hell of alot better than Block Buster.

I purchased ten wired racks from the Movie
Gallery in Perrysburg, OH. I need four more
of the wall panels that are wired and hold
the baskets. I am opening a non-profit store this Thursday. Do you know where I could get these?
