The Netflix website was unavailable for approximately 11 hours today, starting around 7am PT.
CNet discovered that Netflix changed the "Temporarily Unavailable" notice at some point during the day to remove the assurance, "distribution centers are still sending and receiving DVDs."
The Associated Press reported "Swasey says DVDs that normally would have been mailed Monday may not go out until Tuesday because the problem also has hobbled some Netflix distribution centers."
Did your Netflix movies ship today?
Both of my discs which should have shipped today will ship tomorrow instead.
Posted by: Andyjunction | March 24, 2008 at 10:43 PM
No. All four will ship tomorrow instead.

I have no discs due to ship, but all my stars are gone. It doesn't show any stars, rated or unrated for any movie.

No. All fhree will ship tomorrow instead.

Mine are shipping tomorrow. Friends page currently unavailable, also all star ratings & ability to rate not currently up.
(I'm not whining, just giving an update.)

Mine is shipping tomorrow as well. Looks like this was much more significant than a "website" downtime.
Posted by: brent | March 24, 2008 at 11:09 PM
Same here, no discs were shipped today.
Posted by: CDan | March 24, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Mine are shipping on Tuesday, also I don't know if it's just me, but I there are no stars by the titles to allow me to rate movies.

Shipping tomorrow and no emails from NF that returned disks were received.

Called and CS rep said all members will be receiving a 5% credit. Big Deal!
Posted by: pissedoffnetflixcustomer | March 24, 2008 at 11:20 PM
The movie in my queue that was supposed to ship today is instead not shipping until tomorrow. I'm slightly annoyed, but I'll live.
Posted by: Amy | March 24, 2008 at 11:36 PM
1 out of 3 discs were received, when it should have been more. All 3 will ship tomorrow instead of today. Oh well, stuff happens right?
Posted by: Travis | March 24, 2008 at 11:41 PM
Actually, a 5% credit IS a big deal. They refunded you 1/20th of your purchase price for a decrease in service of 1/31st.
Netflix is pro-consumer again you whiners.

No ratings yet. That's ok. These things have to come back in stages- make sure the accounts are up and then turn on the complex features like Ratings and Friends. These guys really need a redundancy system. Serious problem.

Of the two disks that were to ship today, one shipped and the other will ship tomorrow.
The one that shipped today is I Am Legend. We saw it in the theater in South Carolina in January but missed the first 10 minutes. Now (tomorrow) I can see how it started!
Posted by: profpudwick | March 24, 2008 at 11:50 PM
A couple hours ago the site said all 3 of mine were shipping today, as they should have. The site now says one shipped today, the other two will ship tomorrow.
Posted by: CyclingInvestor | March 24, 2008 at 11:51 PM
Yes, my 2 discs were received today and 2 discs shipped today.
Posted by: Steven | March 25, 2008 at 12:03 AM
Incidentally, it appears that "Watch Now" is currently not functioning even though the website is currently up.
Posted by: Sirkickyass | March 25, 2008 at 12:09 AM
My return disc was received today but the next one is showing as shipping Tuesday. I don't have a problem with it, I have plenty of things to do other than watch movies :)
Posted by: illyria | March 25, 2008 at 12:18 AM
Expected them to ship one of mine today. Instead the site says it will be shipping tomorrow.
Posted by: NowWhat | March 25, 2008 at 12:35 AM
Nope, all three shipping tomorrow.
Posted by: Andrew Wickliffe | March 25, 2008 at 12:43 AM
Well, I wasn't home when this happened so didn't know about it until reading the news on Google. Went to check my queue. The two movies I was supposed to get today:
-The Mist has a short wait
-Wristcutters: A Love Story ships Tuesday
Dammit. Maybe I'll just go rent The Mist at Blockbuster if I don't get it tomorrow. This is bullshit.
Posted by: Plus | March 25, 2008 at 12:43 AM
Mine shipped today... Probably because I mailed it on Saturday and it was processed before the 7 AM outage.
Posted by: Alan Smithee | March 25, 2008 at 12:53 AM
This really annoyed me because I wasn't able to edit my queue Monday to remove two movies that I didn't want. Sure enough, Netflix has scheduled those to ship Tuesday. They need a zero down-time system, like any other decent company has. It is absurd that their website shuts down for even a minute. There are many ways they could set up a redundant system. I can't believe a big company like Netflix has so little technical savvy. Amazon and Google haven't been down 11 seconds, that I recall, let alone hours. Please get sorted, Netflix.

Nothing was received, so nothing shipped. I hope something happen tomorrow.
Posted by: Tom | March 25, 2008 at 01:01 AM
Yes, I am dissapointed the service was done for so long. But is it really that big of a deal? I think Netflix is a great service and I love it. Now if they continue to have opeational problems, then that would indeed be a concern.

I'm worried that ratings won't come back ever
Posted by: | March 25, 2008 at 01:59 AM
I agree that 11 hours is excessive for a company as major as Netflix. Also, for scheduled maintenance (which I realize this wasn't), I'd like some warning.
Posted by: machinegunn | March 25, 2008 at 01:59 AM
Mine didnt ship. Didnt get the recieved email untill 11 pm.
Just another way of throttling.
LOL
Posted by: rjm | March 25, 2008 at 02:33 AM
Watch Now is now up. It's all coming back in stages.
Also for the person who's worried that ratings will never come back: don't be silly. Netflix has a highly publicized $1,000,000 prize based around those ratings. It would be a PR disaster if they were gone forever. They'll be back, probably tomorrow.

Now Blockbuster is down, although it is the middle of the night. Doesn't look like a maintenance window, though. Don't these organizations know how to run backup, alternate sites??

Mine were received just before the site went down, but it's showing that the next three are shipping today, not yesterday.

The rating system is still down this morning.

I called Netflix yesterday about 10:30 A.M. to see if my previously returned movie was received and when the next movie would ship. My very friendly customer service person reported that the website malfunction also affects the Netflix staff's ability to see account information and issue new discs to customers. The website outage was a very minor inconvenience at the most. I consider myself a stickler for good customer service. With almost all the goods and services I purchase, customer service, which should be received automatically is often something I must constantly demand. I always take the time to praise Netflix for its superior customer support every time I speak with a customer service representative. There are very few products or services that even come close to the level of customer care that Netflix provides. American Express may be the only other entity that tries so diligently to satisfy its consumer base. Netflix is batting 995 in my book. and that is about as close to perfection as its gets. There are some weak points in the Netflix process. The biggest is being forced rely on the government’s mail service. Not being open on Saturday is another. But my advice to those who conveniently forget what bad customer service really is, should sign up with Blockbuster or go into a Hollywood Video (while it is still in business). Perhaps then, Netflix members will realize that their unwarranted, incessant whining is just a tempest in a TV.

I returned 3 on Saturday and the received emails showed up at 10PM Monday, not too bad. I bet the staff was very frustrated, but they did a heck of a job with the site down.
I would withhold any further judgement if you were expecting a movie to be shipped Tuesday since you may get a nice surprise and have it in your mail box Tuesday instead.

One of my movies was recieved but another is not being sent out. My other movie will ship a day late. Look like it effected the shipment of my movies in the Tri-State area. I won't be getting the Mist so I'll rent it.
