I think they're just trying to protect us and future generations from Colin Farrel. Maybe by 3008 people will have developed the immunity strength necessary to watch his films and survive.

That's a floating date based on when we remove all our troops out of Iraq. If Obama is elected president the release date changes to June 24, 2010.

this would make more sense if the movie were 10,000 BC (given how long it took to film it, it'd surely take a while to convert formats)
