Netflix Genre Search by Year Hack
Allan sent in an interesting trick that enables you to sort genres by year:
I wanted to sort the browse list of movies by year, but currently the site only allows you to sort by title, MPAA, and star rating. So I found a way, to do this, for example, if you go to action & adventure genre section and sort by title you get the url like this:http://www.netflix.com/Genre?sgid=296&so=1&sc=0&lnkctr=ListSort_0list
If you change the url where the two zero occurs to 7, so the url now looks like this below:
http://www.netflix.com/Genre?sgid=296&so=1&sc=7&lnkctr=ListSort_7list
You get the list sorted by year, change &so=0 to reverse the sort direction.
This works in every genre section.

Hi,
Thanks for posting my email, I think the url got cut off somehow by the long continuous url length.
There's more to the url towards the end,
but basically, the complete url are:
http://www.netflix.com/
Genre?sgid=296&so=1&sc=0&lnkctr=ListSort_1list
http://www.netflix.com/
Genre?sgid=296&so=1&sc=7&lnkctr=ListSort_7list

Cool, even if I don't understand it. I'm only into movies from 1945.

I always wanted a sort or filter by year and even sent an email or 2 to Netflix (when you could send email). This is great, but I can see why they hide it. There is already enough demand for the "New" movies just because they are new. No need to put them at the top of the list.

Nice hack!
Is there a way to view by two genres at once? Particularly, I want to view Blu-ray titles by genre. Netflix thinks Blu-ray *is* a genre.

Cool. I wonder whether someone more technically able than me could write a GreaseMonkey script or a bookmarklet to automate this process?
I wonder what nos. 1-6 would do to the sorting list too.

This is nice. I also noticed that you could select a letter using the drop down list. Here are movies that start with "c"

This (#2) is sorting via MPAA ratings:
http://www.netflix.com/Genre?sgid=296&so=1&sc=2&lnkctr=ListSort_2list
--------
Does anyone know how to sort by # of ratings? preferably from lowest to highest and vice versa.

It also works for sorting your rated movies! Just change the zeros to sevens after sorting by title.
http://www.netflix.com/MoviesYouveSeen?so=1&sc=7&lnkctr=ListSort_7
This is awesome because I wanted to make a chronological list of all the films I've seen.
Thanks for the heads up!
