Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is quoted in Forbes:
"[I] am confident this deal is happening," says Pachter, who follows the videogame space. He's betting one of Netflix's mystery partners is a console manufacturer--most likely Microsoft. "It would drive 360 sales and would make Xbox Live more robust for existing users," he notes.

Looks like Netflix will be screwing over the Blu-ray crowd for the 2nd consecutive time in a row.

Woo-Hoo! Take that Blu! Hahahahaha! This is great news if Netflix and Microsoft partner up!

Unfortunately, Pachter has a very good track record, something like 80%.

I think this is fantastic news. While I understand that the PS3 plays BR and the 360 does not, I don't see how this is screwing over anyone. I really hope this comes through and is executed well. (It's good enough news that I comment even though I suspect I'll have to fill a captcha now AFTER logging in.)

Not at all surprising. Microsoft wants to own the living room. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft sells a Blu-Ray player by the end of the year. M$ has the capability to fast-track a product if they need to. I know this seems like a stretch because of the way that Microsoft's Operating Systems have been delayed over the years, but hardware design might actually be easier than writing thousands/millions of lines of code.

patcher has about the worst track record one can imagine for a professional analyst. go back and read all his predictions for netflix and blockbuster. it's almost the complete opposite of what actually happened.

My number for Pachter was off. An analysis showed him to be 60% accurate last year on his video game console predictions, which put him among the top of the 10 analysts compared.

@TPOLMike
how does this affect Blu-Ray since it's not HD and not even a replacement for HD?

1) msft will eventually go BLU.
2) this deal seems simply part of a larger plan to get netflix on many devices, without exclusivity.

Good news for Xbox360 owners like myself. That being said I hope to buy a PS3 this spring for Blu-Ray. (-: best of both worlds!

This is really good news for a number of reasons. Not only does this mean better access to affordable content but it also is a good thing in terms of our environment.
Heck, you could say Netflix is saving the world.
