No, it's not a slow news week -- I'm getting excited about seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I know it's silly, but they were great movies when I was growing up, and even Roger Ebert liked the latest one.
Blockbuster surveyed customers to find the "quintessential" Indiana Jones moments, and since it's been years since I saw the movies, they bring back fond memories:
The Most Classic Indiana Jones Scenes, Chosen by Movie Fans1. Running from the Boulder ("Raiders of the Lost Ark") -- 75% An overwhelming three out of four surveyed chose this scene with Indiana Jones running from a boulder in a booby-trapped temple as essential Indy material.
2. "Why Did It Have To Be Snakes?" ("Raiders of the Lost Ark") -- 61% This is Indiana's first on-screen encounter with the snakes he dreads as he descends into the snake-infested Well of Souls.
3. Shooting the Swordsman ("Raiders of the Lost Ark") -- 40% Indiana surprises a sword-wielding enemy with his gun in this comic scene.
4. Mine Cart Chase Scene ("Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom") -- 30% Indy and friends speed through a mine shaft to escape the Thugee cult members.
5. Monkey Brains and Eye Soup ("Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom") -- 20% Willie and Short Round choose from a menu of floating eyeballs, crunchy bugs, snake surprise and monkey brains at the Pankot Palace.
C'mon, admit it. Did you enjoy the Indian Jones movies?
Are you implying that there are people who *don't* like Indiana Jones? Blasphemy! ^_^
Raiders is my personal favorite, but I love the long horse and tank chase/fight scene near the end of Last Crusade. I admit my optimism about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is still cautious optimism. But I'm expecting to have fun, and that's all you really need from Indiana Jones, isn't it?

"Even Roger Ebert liked the latest one"?
Four stars for RAIDERS. Four stars for TEMPLE OF DOOM. Three-and-a-half for LAST CRUSADE. Liking the latest one is hardly out of character for him.

Actually, Indy's first encounter with snakes is on Jock's prop plane after escaping the boulder and Bellocq.

Thank you HypoPig. Had this argument this weekend with someone. Its clearly spelled out early in the first film, but like 70% of people I run into have no recollection of this. Weird.
