Netflix To Host Guinness Movie Watching World Record Competition
Netflix announced that they will be hosting the Guiness World Record Movie Watching Championship in New York's Time Square starting on October 2nd. The winner will receive $10,000, a lifetime Netflix subscription, the Guinness World Record title, and the Netflix Popcorn Bowl trophy. The contestants will have to stay awake while watching full-length movies, with only 10-minute breaks between features.
The current record is 120 hours and 23 minutes, which is held by Ashish Sharma of Mathura, India. Sharma will be joined by other record holders and Jeff Jones, winner of $250,000 on the movie edition of the popular game show series "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" in 2007.

Anyone can audition to compete for the record by submitting a 3-minute video to the Netflix World Record Facebook Page. The deadline for submissions is midnight (PT) on Monday, September 22nd, 2008.
Thanks to Al for sending this in.

I can't stay awake even through one movie.

Is someone going to film this and make a documentary like "Hands on a Hard Body"?

Yay! More boring videos for the internet of people sitting around on their couches talking about how awesome they would be at sitting there and doing nothing for hours watching movies. I too can barely make it through one movie and 2 at most (in rare occasions)

I'm wondering if anyone else read the details of this contest. The record to beat is 120 hours and 23 minutes. That's 5 days. Isn't anyone concerned about the health risks involved with this? Didn't a guy die a few months ago for playing video games 3 days in a row?
