Todd Spangler from Multichannel News has a source that says that Netflix will soon support the Wii and the iPhone.
Netflix, ahead of pay-TV providers, continues extending its own “TV Everywhere” strategy to more devices.
Next up: The company will soon offer the Watch Instantly video-streaming feature on Apple iPhones and iPod touch devices and the Nintendo Wii gaming console, according to an industry executive familiar with Netflix’s plans. (Netflix wouldn’t confirm the info, with a rep saying it declines to comment on “rumors or speculation.”).
Apple, AT&T and MLB stream baseball games to the iPhone, I find it hard to understand why they won't stream Netflix or Slingbox as well.

I see baseball games being different for Apple. It's not as much competition to them as a streaming service would be. Apple would probably much rather have you using their iPhone to watch content from their video store than from elsewhere. I'm not saying it can't/won't happen, just that they have a big interest in keeping it from happening. They tend to like monopolies, and it works for them. Look at what they did with the iPod and iTunes. A HUGE monopoly that paid off for them.
I personally don't have an iPhone, and I don't watch TV on the go so that's not a big deal for me. As for the Wii, not interested. Maybe it's because I already have a 360 and a Tivo Series 3, but having Netflix on the Wii makes me cringe. The Wii isn't high def. It already looks terrible on my set, imagining a Netflix stream just seems like a bad idea. I'd be much more interested in seeing them expand to the PS3. I already use that for all of my other home theater entertainment and I really like the blue-tooth remote. I really hope they don't put too much time or effort into the Wii... but focus on devices that are HD to move them into the future.

The iPhone battery can't HANDLE the truth...

It would be wonderful to have Netflix streaming to the iPhone/iPod Touch. I'd love to be able to watch stuff without having to store it on my iPod.

I'd actually prefer it on my Wii to my 360. I can never get HD to stream from netflix to my 360 anyway, and they don't offer surround, so I'd rather have the better UI the Wii has. Loading up the Xbox takes 3 times as long as loading up the Wii does.

I think Apple would allow it. AT&T would be the problem. They haven't allowed the Slingbox app, and I doubt they would let a Netflix app on the iPhone.

I noticed at the Apple Store the other day that there is a video cable for the iPhone/Touch. Would be sweet to be able to lay my iPhone on my TV and have it stream Netflix movies to the TV. I haven't entered the Hi-def world yet so the low video resolution of the iPhone wouldn't really be a huge problem on my standard def TV...probably NOT so great on a hi-def setup.

Definitely the Wii...that would be fantastic.

I can see this being on the iphone because there are many streaming apps on the iphone and ipod touch already. And if your saying that it will take away business from the apple store, thats not necessarily true because one of those apps streams episodes that are being sold on the apple video store

I would love if the ipod/iphone was a supported device for streaming. I currently stream on my xbox 360, so I could care less if the wii is supported
Posted by: Sam | August 04, 2009 at 03:14 AM
I would love it on the Wii, simply because that's the game console I own and have no plans to get a 360.

OMG!! Stream to Iphone? The world would be close to PERFECT! Watch movies from my que while on the plane, sitting in the airport, waiting at the dentist office!!

There's nothing I would like more than to watch a movie on a 3 inch screen...

I would love it if they got it to stream on Wii. I tried in the past but the built in browser doesn't work with streaming video.

It would be great if I could stream movies on Wii. I might reinstate my Netflix account if they get this to go through.
Posted by: Ronk | August 04, 2009 at 04:10 PM
Both please! My Wii would be easier than moving a laptop near the TV and hooking up the cables as I do now. The iPhone/iPod Touch would be just handy since I'm using it for more and more anyway (including controlling my Netflix queue).

I'd love to see streaming come to the Wii. It's the only internet connected device I have that's hooked up to the TV, so I'd welcome the ability to stream Netflix through that.

OMG!!! ON THE WII!!! PLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSEEEE!!! That would be SOOOO SWEET! Thank you Santa :)

There's nothing I would love to see than to stream movie using iPhone. I think that's really sweet! Imagine, I can watch anywhere I want. Also, it would be great if the rumor about World of Warcraft iPhone version will come true. ;D

I would like to see the Ipod touch/Iphone considered for the next streaming via wifi, that way the phone provider (ATT) will not be overly taxed.

I had a dream to start my own firm, nevertheless I did not earn enough of cash to do it. Thank God my colleague said to utilize the business loans. Therefore I received the college loan and made real my old dream.

Everything matters! That's a perfect phrase for the reality I tried to get at: "mattering" (alias meaning) somehow winning out even when things seem random. Or when they grow out of mistakes (or out of some small, distant move or misstep). I just want to emphasize the good work on this blog, has excellent views and a clear vision of what you are looking for
