I really don't want Netflix to focus on exclusive content. I would be more than happy if each movie in this deal went to Netflix AND HBO or Showtime. Exclusive content is bad for consumers it drives up costs. I want my entertainment limitation to be based on the amount of free time I have to watch movies versus the amount of money I am willing to spend.

CKS

Kewl, but I'll be looking for the latest TV shows to stream. I'm more interested in that.

John

It seems like HD content has come to a standstill. Streaming content isn't going to interest me until it becomes a better option than mailing or buying a Bluray. Most of the Starz content is SD when it is available in HD on their channels. I don't want to take a step backward to be able to watch movies in a convenient manner.

Crow550

Netflix will not raise there rates. That's why they outsourced the site & streaming servers to save money. Also axed most of the Friend features and slimmed the site up.

So they can make deals like this and pass the deal & savings on to us. ;-)

So enjoy this deal!

Crow550

The 28 day deal also saves them money.

So they have been preparing to make more deals like this for awhile.

Nice to hear. Although on the Starz comment from John. It is disappointing that they only offer Starz content in SD but at least the new Starz movie premiere is offered the day before on Netflix.

FearNo1

Cool, the more streamable content the better. Hopefully the content will be in HD. Netflix is turning into a serious competitor to "premium" cable/sat channels. I agree with others that Starz needs to be streamed in HD. Whats the deal here?

BP

Yes, a serious competitor to "premium" channels... who could just as easily revoke Netflix's streaming rights the next time the contract comes up for negotiation which will then easily spend half of the people who read this blog into a fucking flurry. I predict comments along the following:

"ZOMG NO MORE HBO/SHOWTIME ON NETFLIX??? THEY MUST BE MONEY GRUBBING LUNATICS!!!"

"WE TRADED 'DEAD LIKE ME' FOR RIDLEY SCOTT'S CONTINUED MASTURBATORY DECLINE INTO MEDIOCRITY???"

and

"I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE ABOUT ANYTHING AND AS SUCH LIKE TO VOICE IT ON THE INTERNET AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE. MY NAME IS PATB."

Really guys, this is great until the next time Netflix accidentally leaves the milk on the counter without a cap on after having a sip just after midnight after taking up half the bed and tossing around all night and OH MY GOD WOULD HE JUST STOP SNORING!!!

RowdyReptile

I echo the disappointment in Starz SD. I streamed Zombieland last night (a Relativity Media production) and the SD video quality was poor.

FearNo1

@ BP
Troll much? Besides HBO content is not streamed on netflix as they wanted an additional fee.

@ RowdyReptile
I streamed Zombieland to my 57in HDTV via XB360. While the picture was SD, the video quality was very good. Now don't get me wrong, I'd still prefer it in HD ;-)

BP

@ FearNo1

I prefer the term gadfly, but it's all the same to you overly sensitive internet-ruining numpties.

Joe

Hate the SD quality of the Starz stuff. There's no excuse for it either. I'd like to see Netflix get exclusive films that haven't been released in the States for one reason or another such as:

The Rebound (Catherine Zeta-Jones)
Shelter (Julianne Moore one)
Stag Night (Kip Pardue)

just to name a few.

I found Leverage, Season 3, on Netflix and it is now in my saved queue. I think Netflix is just about the best. Service is great!
