uhhh that dishnetwork tweet is stupid, i literally JUST watched easy A on my netflix instant queue... lol

Late Night

"I remember in the old days of marketing you never, ever mentioned or mimicked a competitor unless they were the market leader..." Really? Who is the market leader in this industry? I am curious to know who has more market share than Netflix.

Arrowrand

I got that mailer from D*TV and noted it's similarity to a Netflix mailer. The only time I ever rent a movie from them is when they send me a coupon. Like I tell people all the time, if waiting 30 days for Netflix to get it mattered to me, I probably wouldn't have been willing to wait the MONTHS that it took for the movie to show up on D*, I would have seen it in the theater.

Dish is stupid. Their dishonline.com only offers you the option to watch a movie in the browser, you can't stream it to your box to watch on your TV. My brother has Dish and only has to wait a few more weeks to move to D*. Dish absolutely sucks.

Henchman-24

I agree that dishonline is stupid and also I think their virtual lack of implementation of the greater Internet within the ViP receivers/DVRs is horrendous.

Having said that, their built-in Slingbox tech inside the ViP922 is freaking awesome and pretty much negates any reason for me to surf to crappy websites for content when I can just Sling it off my DVR, be it Live TV or DVR Recordings.

But, then again, D* does have that "whole house DVR" thing going it's way...

The DirecTV envelope is blue - doesn't that make it more like a Blockbuster envelope?

Shanshu73

yeah comcast had the same exact thing up on their facebook page yesterday. woo. i get just those movies and pay double?. where do i sign up. :)

moviegeek

I have to agree with qir, it's just like the old Blockbuster envelopes.
Dish's business model is insane, the defintition of insane is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

That isn't true any movie that you can watch on your pc you can download to your dvr to view. It works the same way that yu get your vod on DirecTv. I just downloaded a title to my dvr.

So if Dish sucks so does Sire4cTV.

Alkalitta

if people want to watch crap and get ripped off then dish is the answer..

Edward R Murrow

The mailer looks more similar to the Blockbuster mailers, in my opinion.

And is Dish saying something that's not true? Can you watch the media that Dish mentions on Netflix or not?

Marshall

My understanding is that you can watch those movies on Dishonline, but not for free. It's a PPV system. Just like Amazon, Sony, Sears, Best Buy and countless others have.

People tell me Dish is doing well but I just see the same bad decisions that BB kept making. Advertising for the competitor is not a good thing and the wording makes Dish unsympathetic to the reader. You want your customers to like you so they stay customers.

BB used the same ad techniques and we see how well it worked for them. Amazon as far as I know has never stooped so low, and they are still standing. Results prove themselves sometimes.

Problem with Dish's tweet as Netflix could say "hey it's raining and you can't get a signal from your Dish" "Good thing you have Netflix disc."

Goes around comes around.

Except Netflix pretends nowadays that discs don't exist.
