Netflix issued a press release to announce that they will be offering streaming movies & TV shows in the UK and Ireland in early 2012.
Upon launch, Netflix members from the UK and Ireland will be able to instantly watch a wide array of TV shows and movies right on their TVs via a range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix, as well as on PCs, Macs and mobile tablets and phones. Further details about the service, including pricing, content and supported devices, will be announced closer to launch.
People interested in becoming members of Netflix in the UK or Ireland can go to www.netflix.com to sign up to receive an email alert letting them know when Netflix has launched in their country.
This will be the first international expansion where Netflix faces LoveFilm, which is owned by Amazon.

You know netflix was in the UK 6-7 years ago but pulled the plug on it before it even launched due to Walmart coming into the market

LoveFilm has great pricing, great selection, and it offers a wide variety of package deals (including games). Oh, and it appears to also have great customer service. NF will have to really step up its game to compete with that well-established (originally European-based) company.
In fact, seems like NF has been going backwards, ditching what works in favor of what appears to bring in more cash: reduced service/functionality; more fees.(That plan went over well, didn't it . . .)
If Amazon can duplicate that LoveFilm model over here in the US, instead of keeping their video service tied up with AmazonPrime, NF will really have to hustle to keep up.
Competition.
It's a good thing.

So between Lovefilm, Netflix, and the free BBC replay service; it seems to me like the VDIO experiment is dead before it even gets started.
