They've been doing this on their official site for the last couple of seasons. AMC does it with Walking Dead too.

Showtime does this every season with Dexter. The season premiere is available for free. The thought is you will but Showtime to watch the rest.

Here's an interesting thought... HBO/SHO license their content through Netflix. While I doubt it would ever happen, it IS an interesting concept. Of course, the underlying issue is that big cable still has a form of lock on the broadband market... and while Verizon got into that game, they are going (at least where I live) so slowly that I wonder if I will EVER have them as a choice.

Just a thought - it takes money to make money. If HBO/SHO license content through Netflix, it could cause an overall revenue drop for HBO/SHO. This could lead to HBO/SHO losing the ability to develop cool and innovative content.

I think everyone's nightmare would be losing Game of Thrones or Dexter in favor of yet more reality programming. Does the world really need another "Real Wives of _____"? Fill in the blank. That would be my idea of pure hell on earth.

Art Artistry

I have to fully agree with you Edward. The idea that you could possibly get everything from one place for 7.99 is insane. Netflix can't afford to pay HBO what Game of Thrones is worth and HBO can't afford to give Netflix Game of Thrones for what they can afford to pay. The money for this has to come from somewhere and I understand as a streaming customer in a lot of cases my measly 7.99 just doesn't do that. So I'm always happy with what I get.

Absolutely! While I wish EVERYTHING were available on Netflix for $8, it would either a)cripple the studios like HBO that make the BEST stuff OR b) jack the cost of Netflix up to cable type prices to pay the studios enough money to keep being awesome... just a different distribution system than cable tv.

And hey guess what, that marketplace already has big boys with deeper pockets filling the niche.

Although now that I'm reading further, Artistry already echoed you.... Consider me band-wagoning.

I think the problem is the general Lowest Common Denominator type of thinking that is so prevalent in Hollywood. We wouldn't even be having this discussion if the average American appreciated quality programing. These shows would be on major networks which could afford to license them out to sites like Netflix. Instead you have to pay extra money on top of your Netflix subscription to watch good tv shows.

Ethan

So the REAL solution to the problems of Netflix is to fix our school systems... I think you're onto something here hahaha

Newsroom is free to stream on Tivo too.

Frank22

Just wait a bit and get them on Netflix DVD or the public library.
