Michael Rubin, who used to be Netflix's Director of Product Management, posted a photo he took of Netflix CEO Reed Hastings checking out a closed Blockbuster store in 2008 (posted with permission). I would love to know what Hastings was thinking at this moment.
Rubin started his career working for Lucas Film and wrote a book about the experience: Droidmaker: George Lucas and the Digital Revolution.
I've been using Netflix since 2002. I receive Blu-rays in the mail from them and do not watch streaming.

One hopes he was thinking, "I should remember why this happened."

I don't know how much it was NF that led to the down spiral; as it was just the poor customer service that Blockbuster handed out day in and day out. They acted like they did not care about their customers at all.

"I should split off the disc division and open up B&M stores, I can then raise the prices. I'm such a brilliant businessman"

"Michael, we can purchase this space for a future call center for Qwikster. I expect Qwikster will be a big hit and this location would be fantastic space to handle all of our customer's phone calls praising the service!"

"Part 2 of my master plan is complete."
Netflix sometimes seems like a South Park episode. They take out all of their major competition and people to stop buying as many DVDs. Cartman/Reed then gets everyone using their rental service to switch to streaming, and everyone stops using DVDs or buying them. All because they wanted 2 50 from him.

Ha Ha this is awesome. I know EXACTLY what store this is. The location is 1730 Mission Street in Santa Cruz California. As some of you may know, Hastings lives in Santa Cruz, and this store is only a couple of miles from his house. The pic was taken when the building was deserted, but it is now a bicycle shop.
