Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced on Facebook that they now have 30 million subscribers.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thirty million of you are now Netflix streaming members.
I’d like to express my gratitude to each of you. Your choice to be a Netflix member helps us get more content every year, and helps us further improve our member experience. You make it possible for us to offer the most amazing internet television experience ever. Thank you, again. -Reed
When I started writing about Netflix in November, 2003, Netflix has only a few million subscribers. I never thought that Netflix would grow into one of the largest subscription services in the world.
that will make the cable and satellite companies happy

According to my math that's at least $240 million revenue every month, that is impressive.

However, Reed Hastings wants his customers to know that his company is here to stay. In order to thank subscribers for their loyalty, the CEO took to Facebook to express his feelings.

I've been a DVD customer for 8 years, but no thanks for me.

Congrats Netflix. Despite all the ups and downs and the desires for people for the service to improve, at $7.99 for streaming, dollar for dollar this is the best deal in entertainment.

Netflix, please add more good movies! The selection is getting pathetic!

Yep, DVD only customer here as well. Where's my thanks! I helped build the company for you!
I don't do the "facesit" as well so posting his "news" there is of no use to me either.

That is huge number of hits. Thanks

I don't see how you all are mad about this, he did this because it is a huge number. If the dvd numbers were growing, he would showcase them.

Icahn purchases 10% stake in Netflix. Everyone wave goodbye to Hastings.

"Hastings remained positive about future growth" I'm glad someone is cause my stock is getting hammered!

Yeah, dill-Reed, you actually have MORE than 30 million subscribers, but I guess we know once again which of us count and which don't.

I was just going to say that it didn't even mention us loyal DVD customer (aka cash cow) that has helped to fuel streaming and will provide Netflix the edge since they will also have DVD's for recent release. Until such time that Blu-Ray level streaming becomes available I will rent Blu-Ray movies.

Please cry more about not being thanked for receiving service you decided was worth paying for.
I understand that we've all had our butts kissed enough in attempts to get our money that we expect thanks in return, but it's announcing a streaming milestone. Yes, streaming was built on DVD. And huge portions of Western Civilization was built on the culture and growth of the Roman Empire, but I don't think Caesar for the convenience of my electronics.
Obviously that's an extreme comparison, but the idea is the same.

Edit - Don't thank Caesar

I cancelled NF thanks to this article. I'll get my stuff from Amazon, BBO, Redbox & DirecTV.

Pretty sure everyone gets an email and a confirmation notice on screen when they sign up for a Netflix account (DVD and/or Streaming) that in addition to comfirming their signup/purchase there is a Thank You and Welcome to Netflix.
Just like nearly every other company you do business with...
Cry me a river.

Yeah these cry babies who complain over $7.99 a month will buy a $5 cup of coffee at Starbucks or rent a $1.25 Redbox movie several times a month, IMO $7.99 is a bargain.
Posted by: Moviegeek65 | November 04, 2012 at 12:03 PM
Moviegeek65, you cocksucker on whom I wish a slow death, the price isn't an issue. I could pay $2.99 or I could pay $19.99, and my sentiments would be the same, because it's a love and passion for cinema and not the 'bargain" that stirs me. And Netflix continues to scale back and dilute their service, which was once so great, as though they have contempt for all but the most brain-damaged, highest-volume droolers among their customer base. Moviegeek65, go jump in front of a speeding 18-wheeler you waste of space.

Again Shari, if you don't like it, don't use the service. To go off on such a rant about an entertainment service makes me question your mental stability. If you don't like it, don't pay.

The Netflix board is clearly failing in it's fiduciary duty to shareholders. Hastings has had a horrible couple of years now at the helm and by the Netflix rules for other employees, should be terminated. Instead, Netflix has adopted a poison pill to ward off Icahn and keep Hastings as CEO.
Get ready for another round of class action lawsuits against Netflix and this time, against the Netflix board.

I am Netflix DVD only now.. I got a deal in the mail for Amazon Prime for $59/year (technically $79 - $20 rebate credited to my credit card). I don't buy a TON of things a year from Amazon, but that's semi-interesting even just to play with their streaming (which I think works with PS3).
