Update: TechCrunch reports that the outage only impacted the DVD website:
“We are experiencing some technical difficulty with the Netflix DVD Web site, which as a result may not be available for all members. Our engineers are working to address this issue. Netflix streaming is not impacted.”
Readers (and Down Right Now) are reporting troubles with Netflix streaming. Netflix also suffered a major streaming disruption on Christmas Eve.
Is Netflix streaming working for you? I am able to stream movies, and I'm located on the East Coast.
All clear in Iowa tonight.

No queue access for over 24 hours now.

No queue access for three days now. Enough is enough! I will cancel my account as soon as I can get Redbox Streaming.

@etragedy
Everything you listed was in 2011, get over it already.

In Oregon, still can't access either streaming or DVD queue -- but I can search on titles, view history, etc

Just checked again. Looks like the DVD side of the house is still down 24+ hours later.

Just got an email that they just received a returned DVD. Problem is they never sent to me. It was a new release I had put in my queue yesterday.
Posted by: Karl S | January 01, 2013 at 06:43 PM
I'm streaming just fine. I wasn't at home earlier, and can't remember if I was Netflixing on Christmas Eve.
Posted by: Galagatron | January 01, 2013 at 07:31 PM
Different people have different experiences. My Netflix record in 2012:
-I was glad to see the DVD stock gain a lot of older titles.
-For a while I got an extra disc than just the two out-at-a-time.
-I called about refunding a non-redeemed gift subscription I got for someone over a year ago, and it was applied to my account, giving me a discount for a few months.
Still, I'm annoyed Netflix continues to stress the streaming service as if the disc service doesn't exist. However other features that were once rumored to go away--eliminating the streaming queue--are still in tact.

Netflix cst service advised refreshing queue page, & it worked. All ok again.
Posted by: Arlene | January 01, 2013 at 07:42 PM
Called twice in 2 hours got different explanations. Remembered the trick about telling them you DVD or want to. I said that, they transferred me. The girl I talked to in Oregon said yes in fact some people couldn't see the DVD lists. And last year I was sick of Netflix, Price change/PS3 down(Sony's fault)/Outages. Tried Hulu and it just sucks. Not enough content/commercials/ no cst service. When to BlockBuster and they just plain suck. Web site always down for 2 hours at a time/ weak content/cst service is email only. Amazon: I still have it and only because I paid for it a year in advance. Weak content. about 1/3 what Netflix has. Hate the web site layout. And I think these would be the reason Netflix is #1

Haven't been able to watch more than 10 minutes of anything for about 24 hours now.
Posted by: Retro Hound | January 01, 2013 at 10:23 PM
@ etragedy...you might want to go back in the tardis and re-check your dates. the price change/splitting of the services (and making the queue not visible for the service you don't have) happened in 2011. don't be sad, tho...the mayans were wrong about 2012 also.
Posted by: jesus ramone | January 02, 2013 at 09:58 AM
@Arlene -- Thanks very much for the tip! Simply hitting Refresh fixed the problem.
Posted by: MikeT | January 02, 2013 at 12:24 PM
Well It may or may not be fixed at the moment. It seems to be browser dependent. Of course, at this time, they are saying there is no problem - just clear your cookies, etc... Despite the fact that it seems to keep showing the "error" page if you use Firefox. IE and Chrome seem to be ok - at the moment.
But then who would expect "www.netflix.com" to show anything but an error page.
Oh yes, they have taken the line that it is "your fault" for not contacting them. The fact that there is NO contact information on their "error" page does not appear to be their problem

A guy on facebook told me how to get the queue back. It is a Windows issue of some kind (I'm not a tech nerd so I don't what that really concerns) but what he told me to do worked. Simply clear out the DNS cashe. I used Cleaner and my queue came right back.
Posted by: MikeRJ | January 02, 2013 at 04:02 PM
Thanks Perkins. I wish I could go back but their lack of investing in the lower tier titles us B movie fans want keeps me from it.
Posted by: Peter Davenport | January 02, 2013 at 09:32 PM
I admit fault.
My mistake - a bunch of that happened in 2011 as other posters have pointed out. But not all.
I guess it seems like it just happened since I just logged into my shipping history on NF and saw that in all of 2012 they averaged less than one disc/week (way, way less about 3 per month) and of those about 10% were damaged or the wrong disc.
Currently as I type this: I sent back a disc 6 days ago, and they still haven't received it; just reported it. Admittedly, this may be the fault of the U.S. Mail, but I'm not sure. (It also may be that the new increased USPS delivery times may have kicked in for 2013; if that's the case and I'm only going to be getting 1 DVD a week or less, I might have to cancel altogether - unless Netflix is willing to reduce it's rates even further given it will be shipping out far less discs/month reducing their overhead... but I'm not holding my breath on that one.)
Posted by: etragedy | January 04, 2013 at 11:59 AM
...and two hours after posting that:
"We're Sorry
The Netflix site is temporarily unavailable. Our engineers are working hard to bring the site back up as quickly as possible."
Yup, site is down again.
Posted by: etragedy | January 04, 2013 at 02:05 PM
@etragedy
I still get all my DVD's within 48 hours, none damaged in the last four years. Check your mailer to see if you have been re-assigned to a new warehouse. If so, you should phone and complain.
Posted by: MikeT | January 04, 2013 at 02:30 PM
DVD queue just dropped. IW still online but Search is disabled. Why can't someone take two minutes to tell us what is going 0n?
Posted by: MikeT | January 04, 2013 at 03:17 PM
Website is wonky for me now too. I was able to rearrange my queue this morning but now the star ratings are all gray.
Posted by: crystal | January 04, 2013 at 03:45 PM
If anyone is having website issues still, you need to clear your cache. After doing so, going to netflix.com/clearcookies wouldn't hurt as well. Once you sign back in you should be fine.
Posted by: velvetjesus | January 04, 2013 at 07:09 PM
Having streaming issues with lots of starts and stops the last 3 nights after about 7pm EST - Tampa Florida.
Posted by: CR | January 04, 2013 at 10:02 PM
@CR. Stops and starts? Nothing to do with Netflix. Sounds like it's your internet bandwidth. Unplug your modem and router, and if you're running through a device like a blu ray unplug that as well.

streaming is not impacted.
Methinks Mike (hackingnetflix guy) might be a bit tired during the holidays :D

The DVD side is DOWN AGAIN. Don't worry - it was working perfectly all day today, Jan 4. Even told me it was working perfectly as I was reporting problems - until he finally decided to check www.netflix.com himself and found the SITE IS DOWN - AGAIN.
But I shouldn't be concerned since it was up earlier today.
The earlier outages don't mean anything.]
This is Netflix Customer Service going down the toilet. If this is there response to outages then it will be the nail in their coffin.

The Netflix site has been slow for me all day and now at 3:30pm CST the site is down again...
Posted by: Gary Sutton | January 05, 2013 at 04:32 PM
After two years I was ready to come back to NF. I went to the site to sign up. No dice.
Posted by: Satorical | January 05, 2013 at 10:02 PM
I haven't been able to access my queue in days. I cleared DNS cache and Netflix chache to no avail. I normally use Chrome, but for the heck of it, tried Internet Explorer and was able to access my queue again. Weird. Annoying.
Posted by: Jacob Moogberg | January 06, 2013 at 11:47 AM
It's refusing to open up for me in Firefox, but did on Internet Explorer. Also noticed they now have crummy ads with the free 2 iPads promise. Way to rip us off Reed.
Posted by: Joe | January 06, 2013 at 08:54 PM
Joe, the Netflix website/service does not do ads in any way shape or form. If you see ads on the website you likely have malware and should really run any antimalware software you have.

Some of these tactics have extra ordinary features which never really resides behind the co-version of these packages.
