Notes to Netflix
I'm not sure how I feel about this, but people are attaching silly "notes to Netflix" when they return movies. Here's the Flickr image pool. There are only a few, but I worry that the wrong person will see the wrong message...

» Post-It Notes for Netflix from Corante New York
We're big Netflix fans around here, and so it was interesting to find out that Netflix subscribers from around the country have been attaching yellow Post-It notes to the Netflix DVD return envelope. According to these images from Hacking... [Read More]

Wow that is SOOO stupid! I can see maybe a note saying "DVD didn't play" or something, but something that stupid. Those are the people who write to complain about stuff in newspapers or magazines or something.

That's impressively not funny.

Sorry, but the only person who will see the notes will be Netflix employees as they peel them off, without reading them, and throw them in the trash.

Am I the only one who thought those folks obviously have no lives? That is stupid, stupid, stupid, and more stupid. It's understandable to write a post it note to say wrong DVD, or it does not play, but to write random notes like that is simply foolish.

Any moron who thinks personal notes on bulk mail actually is read is just....well a moron I guess.

I have put notes on the discs I return, but it's always been for good reason. Like when I reported a disc damaged and got the exact same copy sent back to me as a replacement. At a quick glance the disc looked fine but there was a tiny chip near the edge that defeated all 3 of my DVD players.
I've also included a note for messed up series sets. Like if the sleeve is for disc #3 in a series but the disc inside is #2. I doubt the person whose job it is to check problem reports looks closely enough to catch small differences like that.

I like whimsy. Do not crush it.
I think it would be serendipitous to receive such a message from a fellow subscriber.

I agree with Becky.
...I consider sticking fun notes on my return
movies about as worthless as posting my odd
thoughts here.
(note: I did not say *how* worthles... a trick
I learned from well regarded philospohers ;0)

Good one Internet. Made me chuckle.

Netflix customer of the year:
1) 500 DVDs in your queue.
2) 6 DVD rentals per month.
3) Serendipitous note on the rental you kept for a month.

What pathetic retards. The Netlfix workers will just peel those off and throw them away without even glancing at them or focusing their eyes. I equate this behavior with the lame haiku poetry "Jack" emailed around his office in "Fight Club." GET A LIFE, LOSERS. Your notes will just be discarded unseen. If you rent a DVD at a store, they open it and check the contents. If there's any paper in the box, they throw it away without glancing at it for even a second. Sorry, but they do not have time to waste on your stupid BS.

I'm sure it doesn't speed up the processing time. A hinderance and lame joke.

What a lot of angst.
This is little different than letters in a bottle, or grafitti in some hidden spot. To the people who write it, it barely matters if anyone ever reads it, the effort is small, and it's harmless. If they derive some pleasure sending a message to the universe, let them.
Besides, in this case it's obvious someone did recieve the message without simply discarding it unread. We have the pictures to prove it.

Ummm....I think the pictures shown were taken by the people who wrote the notes BEFORE they put them in the envelope.
I doubt there is some NETFLIX employee sitting there with a camera documenting all of these notes.

Don't hate the players-- hate the game. Why do you think these people target netflix anyway? And another thing, forget the post-its, Magnetic dust works much better.

The only time I did that was when they mixed up two actors, crediting their characters to the wrong one.

Gee, I've been just running the sleeves through my printer and putting "Be kind, rewind" on them for the benefit of the noobs.

Hopefully one of you folks will get a note that a Netflix employee forgot to remove, and hopefully that note will contain instructions on how to remove that large stick from your ass.
Posted by: boobah | January 05, 2006 at 06:41 AM
Lame!
If it takes just one second for the folks at Netflix to remove the stupid note and promptly deposit it into the trash, they lose an hour for every 3600 discs they process.
Thanks for slowing down what is already a questionable service in terms of timeliness.
I am fortunate enough to have a TON of spare time in my life and this would still be a waste of time, effort and intelligence.
Must be sad to be so lonely that you send notes to nobody.
