He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Vol. 2 Continuing to defend Eternia from the evil Skeletor, Prince Adam -- aka He-Man -- fights for justice with the help of his friends Man-At-Arms, the Sorceress, Orko and Teela in this collection of episodes from 2003. Focusing on Prince Adams's early adventures, this Cartoon Network revival of the classic 1980s animated series includes such other memorable characters as Man-E-Faces, Trap Jaw, Merman, Tri-Klops, Whiplash and more.
Ki-Kids: Cocineros Kio, Kia, Pekas, Kate and the rest of the Ki-Kids guide two utensils to the kitchen of a famed chef, who's set to prepare a regal dinner for a visiting king in this charming installment of the children's series, presented in Spanish and English. The program emphasizes good table manners and how to respect your guests during a dinner. The series is designed to help children aged 3 and up learn English as a second language.
Ki-Kids: Police Kio, Kia and company introduce young viewers to the world of police, who work together to keep everybody safe and following the rules. Kids can even sing about what they learned to the song "Follow the Rules." The delightful program emphasizes -- both in English and in Spanish -- how to be courteous and responsible and lets kids know that if they have a question or need help, they can always ask a police officer.
Minutemen Offering their services to fellow misfits, high school outcasts Virgil (Jason Dolley), Zeke (Nicholas Braun) and Charlie (Luke Benward) design a time machine that allows the user to travel back into the past to correct embarrassing social gaffes, a "do over" opportunity, so to speak. But for all their good intentions, the three are soon in over their heads when they inadvertently open up a black hole and find themselves on the run from the feds.
Muhammad: The Last Prophet A father tells the story of Muhammad to his little girl in this animated family film. The film chronicles Muhammad's life story, beginning with his retreat from Mecca's decadent streets to a cave where he prays and is visited by the archangel Gabriel. Told by Gabriel that he's a prophet meant to preach charity and the religion of Abraham, Muhammad returns to Mecca and quietly gathers followers, but Quarysh leads an army against the man of peace.
Come Drink with Me When bandits kidnap his son, the governor sends his daughter Golden Swallow (Pei-Pei Cheng) to the rescue. With the help of a local beggar known as Drunken Cat (Hua Yueh), Golden Swallow tracks down the main perpetrator, the evil monk Jade Faced Tiger (Hung Lieh Chen). Hailed as a pioneering classic of Hong Kong martial arts cinema, director King Hu's action hit features a butt-kicking turn by the 19-year-old Cheng.
Heroes of the East A Chinese man (Gordon Liu) and a Japanese woman (Yûko Mizuno) enter into an arranged marriage, but what begins as a happy union starts to unravel when their clashing styles of martial arts trigger a family feud. The husband must then prove the worth of Chinese kung fu in a series of duels with seven Japanese fighters. The sparks fly, and so do the swords, spears, kicks and punches in this playful entry from the Shaw Brothers catalog.
Johnny Legend Presents: Beat Mania! Oddball movie maven Johnny Legend presents The Beatniks, an exploitation crime flick from 1960 filled with bongos, hep cats and reefer. After holding up a convenience store with his pals, Eddie Crane (Tony Travis) is discovered by a talent agent at a diner; now, he has a shot at fame and fortune -- but not if his buddies have a say in the matter. Paul Frees -- best known as the voice of Boris Badenov from "The Bullwinkle Show" -- directs.
King and Country / Angels One Five Though the battles in these two British dramas take place largely off-screen, both films remain riveting tales of war in the first half of the 20th century. King & Country stars Dirk Bogarde as military attorney Capt. Hargreaves, whose contempt for his deserter client (Tom Courtenay) slowly transforms to sympathy. In Angels One Five, Jack Hawkins stars as an injured squadron leader determined to fight in the Battle of Britain.
Mooch Goes to Hollywood / Poco, Little Dog Lost / My Dog Shep / Rin Tin Tin and the Test Hollywood goes to the dogs with this quartet of canine movies. A mutt hungers for the limelight in 1971's Mooch Goes to Hollywood and meets a host of popular stars along the way; separated from his owner, a brave pooch crosses mountains and deserts to find her in 1977's Poco, Little Dog Lost; an orphan's life is changed by a pup in My Dog Shep (1946); and Rin Tin Tin and the Test (1935) finds our hero track down some fur thieves.
The Captive Heart In a German POW camp, Czech officer Capt. Karel Hasek (Michael Redgrave) assumes the identity of dead British officer Capt. Geoffrey Mitchell, and to keep up the charade he must correspond with Mitchell's estranged wife, Celia (Rachel Kempson). The letters revive Celia's faded love for her husband, but the Gestapo is closing in on Hasek and is bound to expose him, forcing a heartbreaking realization from the amorous Celia.
The Great Adventure / George! / Rin Tin Tin and the Fangs of the Wild / Rin Tin Tin and the Skull and Crown Prepare for canine adventure with four features. Jack Palance and Joan Collins star in 1975's survival tale The Great Adventure, based on Jack London's story; a Swiss bachelor's life is turned upside down when he inherits a 250-pound St. Bernard in the 1973 comedy George! Rin Tin Tin helps rangers track thieving fox trappers in Fangs of the Wild (1938), then aids a border agent bring the outlaw El Zorro to justice in 1935's The Skull and Crown.
The Sound Barrier World War II pilot Tony (Nigel Patrick) marries into the family of wealthy airplane designer John Ridgefield (Ralph Richardson), whose near-reckless pursuit of breaking the sound barrier creates an emotional barrier with his daughter Susan (Ann Todd). Featuring ace performances, vintage aviation footage and sterling direction by master auteur David Lean, the stirring drama won the 1953 BAFTA for Best Film and Best Actor for Richardson.
The Thief of Bagdad Banished from Bagdad by evil wizard Jaffar (Conrad Veidt), blind Prince Ahmad (John Justin) teams with plucky boy-thief Abu (Sabu, in his signature role) to return to the royal palace, reclaim the throne and win the hand of a lovely princess (June Duprez). Also starring Rex Ingram as the wily genie, this rousing adventure classic -- which chalked up three Oscars -- remains one of cinema's finest fantasies.
The Three Stooges Collection: Vol. 2: 1937-1939 Get ready for more madcap misadventures and mishaps with this 24-karat collection of rib-tickling short films featuring cinema's wackiest trio of screwballs. Selections include "Cash and Carry," which finds the zany threesome looking at a stint in stir after inadvertently digging into the U.S. Treasury, and in "Termites of 1938," all hell breaks loose when the boys attempt to exterminate some uninvited dinner guests.
White Fang and the Hunter / Lassie and the Painted Hills / War Dogs / Call of the Yukon Thrill to the adventures of canine heroes in this quadruple feature. In 1975's White Fang and the Hunter, a fur trapper and his dog aid a woman who rescued them after a wolf attack; Lassie and the Painted Hills (1951) stars Lassie as gold rush-era hero Shep, who solves a murder; 1942's War Dogs follows a boy and his dog who help with the war effort; and Swift Lightning, Firefly and Buck team up to save the life of a reporter in Call of the Yukon.
Crackpot After years of struggling on the streets, a homeless man named Bobby (director Michael Keller) is inspired to take his life in a different direction with a bold new philosophy of freedom. Yet the powers that be are determined to keep him caged. After attracting a ragtag band of loyal followers, Bobby is dismissed as a "crackpot" and labeled as crazy. But that doesn't stop him from spreading his wacky but wise gospel to anyone who will listen.
Futile Attraction It seems like a story tailor-made for reality television: "Couple finds true love with the help of a matchmaking service." The only problem now, of course, is finding a couple that actually fits that description. When a TV crew casts the so-called "lovers" to star in their new reality show, they come up two people who can hardly stand each other. But instead of changing the story line, the producers decide to manipulate reality.
The Lather Effect On the eve of selling her childhood home, Valinda (Connie Britton) hosts a liquor-drenched high school reunion party, after which she and a handful of her now 30-something friends clean up the wreckage and wax nostalgic about the long-gone 1980s. Eric Stoltz, Peter Facinelli, Ione Skye, Sarah Clarke and Tate Donovan fill out the cast of this intriguing ensemble dramedy from co-writer-director Sarah Kelly.
You're Triflin In an effort to earn more respect from their ladies, Keith (Juan Branch) and Tray (Walter Fauntleroy) try to get some quick cash by hosting a comedy show at the Viper Room -- and taking a big cut from the house -- but their plans get brought back to earth thanks to a local mobster. The sexy urban romantic comedy also features a hilarious cameo by Ghana-born comic Michael Blackson.
A Simple Promise While dreaming of success, struggling artist Marcus Savage (Wallace Demarria) and talented chanteuse Madison Lane (Layla Kayleigh) start a romance but are forced to reassess the relationship when Madison gets her break first and moves to Los Angeles. Will faith get them through the rough patch, or will their shifting fortunes drive a wedge between them? Ella Joyce, Bobby Reed and Alana Ethridge also star in this urban drama.
Back Soon In the wake of his wife's death, Logan (Windham Beacham) becomes fast friends with Gil (Matthew Montgomery). But after a drunken night together ends with the two straight men sharing a steamy bed, the two must reexamine their sexual identities as they forge a new relationship. Writer-director Rob Williams's touching and surprising drama won the Alternative Spirit Award at the 2007 Rhode Island International Film Festival.
Daphne Geraldine Somerville stars in this BBC biopic as acclaimed novelist Daphne du Maurier, whose secret infatuations and affairs with the likes of heiress Ellen Doubleday (Elizabeth McGovern) and actress Gertrude Lawrence (Janet McTeer) are said to have informed much of her writing. Based largely on Margaret Forster's biography, Clare Beavan's film paints a stirring portrait of an artist's struggle for self-acceptance.
Shelter Zach (Trevor Wright) sacrifices his dream of going to art school to support his ill father (Don Margolin), sister (Tina Holmes) and her young son (Jackson Wurth) in this moving drama. He finds happiness surfing with buddy Gabe (Ross Thomas). But when he falls for Gabe's older brother, Shaun (Brad Rowe), his world is turned upside down. Zach struggles to learn how to put his own needs first before the demands of his family.
The Air I Breathe Kevin Bacon, Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar star in this Jieho Lee-directed drama that mines four basic human emotions -- love, pleasure, sadness and joy -- for inspiration. A banker discovers true happiness; a mobster finds hope; a celebrity sees life lose its luster; and a doctor wrestles with matters of the heart that can't be addressed within the confines of an operating room. The Buddha of Suburbia Naveen Andrews (TV's "Lost") stars in this satirical coming-of-age tale as Karim, a half-English, half-Indian teenager who struggles to find his own identity while growing into adulthood in 1970s London. The Life I Lived Looking back on his professional life on the day of his retirement, small-business owner Bill Cacchiotti (Richard Bennett) can't help but notice that his son Eddie (David L. Each starts out by trying to navigate her strange and unfamiliar world alone. But both ultimately find strength in each other. Levskaya and Carnicki also direct this drama based on a true story.
Chronicles of an Exorcism Based on true events, this documentary-style horror flick follows two amateur filmmakers (Rob G. Kahn and David Michael Ross) as they record an exorcism performed on a young girl (Dara Wedel) suffering from demonic possession. Over three days, priests Father Michael (Matthew Ashford) and Father Lucas (Nick G. Miller) faithfully work to rid the girl of the evil entity but soon realize they're facing the most sinister demon that exists.
Cool Air In this film based on H.P. Lovecraft's famous short story, aspiring author Randolph Carter (Bryan Moore) takes a room in a cheap boarding house and befriends the mysterious Dr. Muñoz (Jack Donner), who resuscitates the writer after he suffers a near-fatal heart attack. When the doctor shares a terrifying secret, Carter must reexamine his ideas of life and death. Several shorts adapted from Lovecraft tales are also included.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde While researching a rare and mystical Amazonian flower, Dr. Henry Jekyll (Dougray Scott) accidentally releases his dark alter ego -- the homicidal Mr. Hyde (also portrayed by Scott) -- in this modern retelling of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale. When he realizes that Hyde is the perpetrator of a series of brutal murders, Jekyll tries to stop the killings by confessing to the crimes -- but it may be too late. Tom Skerritt co-stars.
Dreams of Cthulhu: The Rough Magik Initiative In this horrifying film based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, the Night Scholars, a secret society dedicated to protecting the world from the evil of Cthulhu, are stunned to realize that the long-dormant Sleeping God may be waking up.
