Watch The Emmy's? Netflix has Many Emmy-Nominated Shows on Streaming

Did you watch the Emmy Awards tonight? Netflix has about 39 nominated shows on streaming, according to the Netflix Blog:

Netflix Signs Ricky Gervais Comedy "Derek"

The NY Times reports that Netflix has signed a deal to stream the Ricky Gervais comedy "Derek."

Netflix said on Wednesday that it had acquired the rights to show “Derek,” a new comedy program written, directed by and starring Mr. Gervais, following its run on Channel 4 in Britain.

On “Derek,” Mr. Gervais, a creator and star of comedies like “The Office” and “Extras,” and a three-time host of the Golden Globe Awards, plays its title character, a naively simple man who works in a nursing home. The show also features Karl Pilkington, a regular on Mr. Gervais’s radio show and podcasts, and the star of the travel series “An Idiot Abroad.”

Netflix Adds 'Revenge,' 'Once Upon a Time,' and 'Scandal' to Streaming

Netflix announced that they will have a streaming exclusive on three top ABC shows: 'Revenge,' 'Once Upon a Time,' and 'Scandal.'

"We are thrilled that Netflix will become the exclusive subscription destination for the first seasons of these successful ABC shows. We know our members like to immerse themselves in their favorite shows and Scandal,Revenge and Once Upon a Time are the kind of smart, serialized dramas that Netflix members love," said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix.

I'm wondering what you're watching this holiday weekend on DVD or streaming (I'm always interested in something new to watch).

What TV Shows Should Netflix Resurrect?

Warming Glow has a list of 10 shows that they think Netflix should revive before Jericho, including Better Off Ted, Terriers, Awake, Lost, and Deadwood (please bring back Cusswood, er Deadwood!). 

It's been a whirlwind year for Netflix, as it attempts to stay well ahead of the curve. Unfortunately, most of CEO Reed Hastings' attempts have backfired, from raising the subscription cost to his attempt to spin off the mail-in DVD service. He also revealed that Netflix's ultimate goal is to become more like HBO, and that the service would like to be 60 percent original content at some point in the future. The first step toward that goal was smart: They made a deal to make 10 new episodes of "Arrested Development," paving the way toward a feature film. Since then? One boneheaded idea after another.

First they tossed around the idea of picking up the little seen, not very good series, "The River" after its cancellation, and this week it was reported that Netflix has approached CBS about reviving "Jericho," a series that has gained a decent following post-cancellation on CBS, but that wasn't that great to begin with (at least after a solid opening season).

RUMOR: Will Netflix Resurrect Jericho?

TV Guide scored an exclusive: Netflix is rumored to be in talks with CBS to bring back Jericho:

Apocalypse now? TV Guide Magazine confirms that Netflix has approached CBS about reviving cult fave Jericho — and the network, through its CBS TV Studios production arm, is considering it. The drama, which followed the residents of a small Kansas town in the wake of a nuclear attack, has been off the air since 2008. Repeats of Jericho remain popular on Netflix's on-demand service, even four years after the show's cancellation.

The story notes that there are a lot of things to get in order before this deal can be done, like getting the cast together and working out the financial details. But it could happen...

Casting Call This Sunday in D.C. for Netflix's 'House of Cards'

WTOP reports that there is a casting call this Sunday in D.C. for Netflix's upcoming series 'House of Cards."

Specifically, they're looking for 21- to 34-year-old men and women who can fill the roles of nameless political staffers and reporters, and people ages 40 to 60 to play politicians, lobbyists and reporters.

"Even though it's Sunday, don't wear shorts or anything like that. Look professional, because these pictures are going to be used forever," Wittmer instructs would-be actors.

Netflix has committed to produce 28 episodes, so this weekend's casting call is not expected to be the last.

Most of the shooting for the series will take place in Baltimore. A similar casting call held there last weekend drew about a thousand people. Wittmer says calls in D.C. tend to be larger.

The open call will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Hill Center on 921 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. Interested participants are asked to email a JPEG file photo of themselves including their name, phone number, height and weight to ccsubmissions01@gmail.com.

 

Netflix Not Saving 'Terra Nova' After All

Hollywood Reporter: Netflix is not going to save 'Terra Nova' after all.

Terra Nova is officially extinct, at least with Netflix. Just weeks after the company expressed interest in picking up the recently canceled Fox dinosaur drama, the streaming service has opted to pass on salvaging the series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, with Netflix and Terra Nova studio 20th Television unable to come to terms to revive the series. Netflix's name first surfaced early this month after Fox canceled the pricey drama from executive producer Steven Spielberg and 20th Television but talks ultimately broke down.
