Toffer Peak

If he only watches movies once then what the heck is his reasoning for only allowing the purchasing of TV episodes rather than the much more logical and cheaper option of renting?

type-cast

"We look at consumer behaviour. Of all the movies I’ve watched in my life, there are only about 20 I want to own."

I want to own 200 - which I would watch more than once. I really don't want to be told by some jerk at Microsoft that "we have studied consumer behavior and determined most people only watch 20 movies more than once." Since when did companies care about what you Need? Their job is to make you buy what you do not need. They should get their heads out of the sand and start moving product. Studying some consumer's behavior is not part of their job description. This pie-in-the-sky thinking is nothing but a waste of time. Leave it to the geniuses at Microsoft to come up with drivel like this. What next? Tell women they do not need more shoes, because they have 12 pairs, already? That will be very good for the shoe company's bottom line.

>>I do Netflix. I watch it, I send it back.<<

same here...I just don't see the point of owning movies. If others do, that's cool, it's just not for my clan.

my DVDs now rival my books when it comes to shelf space.

I enjoy being able to be in a little more control when it comes to entertaining friends. Lately when pals with little kids come over, I put in the complete HR Pufnstuf DVDs. And the kids are glued to it. Now do I really want to have to rent these episodes or pay to download them?

TK Kingfan

I agree I don't like to pay a premium for a movie that I will only watch a few times, or maybe just once. I rent online with Blockbuster. I let my kids pick the movies so they get the fun of checking the mail. Its like christmas everyday for them. Then I return the online DVDs to the store and get one for me to watch for free.

It just gets better now with the PS3 out for BLURAY and HDDVD on the XB360 I am excited to not have to dedicate my $ to buying a player that could become obsolete. All the while getting the HD movies from blockbuster online.

I got a code to try it free for 4 weeks.
www.blockbuster.com\bbfamily
use code: 1616ta

Online and instore... what a concept?
I'm surprised it took Blockbuster this long, but I'm glad they finally combined the two!

I am starting to think the main visitors to this site are Blockbuster Employees.

I totally agree type-cast. I wish he would have said "the licensing is too expensive or the studios balked or it was too hard to get it put together" as opposed to this is what I want so this is what you should want. I am in the same camp as him, but I would never presume that is what every customer would want.

gir

Gag! All of these BlockBuster employees (store owners?) coming here and pimping their promo codes is making me want to puke. Have you people no shame?

It's almost as bad as all those Netflix pop-ups on virtually every single web page on the internet. Or what's really obnoxious are the paid advertisements on the Netflix mailers. I swear we'll start getting Netflix mailers for Relacore soon. Something like so:
"If you never get out and all you do is watch Netflix movies, start taking Relacore and get rid of unsightly belly fat." ;-)

Seriously, is there some way to opt out of these direct mail marketing scams on the Netflix mailers? There's gotta' be a law!

munkey

ed r murrow, either *you* are NetflixShrill, or type-cast is (or you all are the same person). The fact that you could possibly try to defend crappy blockbuster comment spam and turn it around into yet another gripe about Netflix is just ridiculous. And please, you are tarnishing Murrow's good name by using it as an alias for your bought-and-paid for blockbuster cheerleading.

corey3rd

i wonder if Peter Moore buys books or just gets them from the library? What's the point of buying a book since most of the time, you read it once and then just let it sit on the shelf. And you don't have to pay a monthly fee to use the library or a download payment.

In my part of the country, we have Freedom of Speech. If you don't like what others post, by all means don't read them. Just like if you don't like what's on TV, by all means change the channel.

munkey

whatevah eddy... I'm just calling you out as the cheap bb shill that you are. keep it up if that's what you get paid for man.

Excellent point! I've only been somewhat successful in persuading my wife to stop buying her books & go to the library...she does buy used books now when the title she desires is available.

I think it has to do with upbringing...I went to the library lots when I was a young'n but my wife hardly ever did. I do still buy plenty of books but they're the type I refer to off & on again...reference/art/puter,etc.

You've given me a good argument to use on her

Cheers

uh.. based on close reading of ERM's message, munkey's comments seem spot on.

TK Kingfan's post almost amounted to BB Spam.

The real Edward R Murrow has got to be rolling in his grave...

Not me. I've received nothing but crappy service from BB for the past month. I could write volumes. Talk about screw ups. I'll be dumping them at the end of the month.
