Do you mean movies that arrived on DVD in 2007? Or movies that were in theaters?

Luc Besson's "Angel-A" made it to DVD in 2007 after a couple years delay, and it was truly a return to form for the director of such gems as "La Femme Nikita" and "The Fifth Element". "Angel-A" is low budget, black and white, and really, really nice. Yeah it is subtitled but it is a simple film so reading the lines won't tire you.

These are the 1 & 5 star ratings I gave out this year.

DVDs I loved this year:
Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont
Stranger than Fiction
Music and Lyrics
The West Wing: Season 7

DVDs I hated this year:
Premonition
Deck the Halls

There were plenty of others that I loved/hated this year, but they were older movies that I had just got around to seeing. Some of these may have come out late last year, but I didn't see them till this year.

FYI, for those using Netflix, go to this link to see all your rentals and ratings for the last year:

honestly, i didnt think any good movies came out this year. i think critics are praising movies that arent great, just because they are good in comparison. i thought bourne supremacy, juno, and no country for old men, were just okay. however, they got a ton of love from critics.

Barrett

Loved:
No Country for Old Men
Eastern Promises

Hostel Part 2
The Number 23

David Grenier

The two movies I can remember seeing in theaters this year and loving were Hot Fuzz and You Must Be This Tall (a documentary about a local amusement park, Netflix doesn't seem to have it yet).

My 5 star rentals for the year were:
The Office Season 3
My Name Is Earl Season 2
Deadwood (series)
Carnivale (series)
Sir! No Sir!
Die Hard
Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Spider Man
Spider Man 2

I have no 1-star ratings for the year. In fact, I rarely have 1-star ratings. Either my standards are very low or I manage to not rent movies I will hate. In fact, the last 1-star movie I rented was "The Smokers" back in May of 2005.

I loved Borat, Superbad, Knocked up...a whole bunch really but i'm not sure what came out this year. I rent a lot of older stuff. This is England too...good flick. I loved Vacancy and the Grindhouse flicks too. Black Snake Moan I would rate 4.8 stars...close enough to 5.

Forgot about things I was looking forward to in '08:

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
George Romero's Diary of the Dead
Clive Barker Presents: Hellraiser (although I'm mad they are remaking it)

blackcloud13

speaking of remakes, why the hell is michael haneke remaking "funny games" ?

Im Not A Turnip

I enjoyed most of the mega-budget blockbusters released on DVD last year. But I ESPECIALLY liked:
* Flags of our Fathers
* The Departed
* Superbad
* The Kingdom

On the "Too Incredibly, Painfully Wretched even for Mystery Science Theater 3000" list was:
* Collier & Company: Hot Pursuit
* The Man from Earth
* Spirit of '76

Im Not A Turnip

Ooops, forgot. In 2008 I'm looking forward to renting:
Across the Universe
Into the Wild
The Darjeeling Limited
CLOVERFIELD !!!!!
I Am Lend
Iron Man
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (Yes, I'm only 1 of 6 people who really liked the 1st one)
The Dark Knight

JohnnyBob

I didn't see any 2007 DVD rental release movies that I particularly liked, but saw a few new ones (for me) from former years that were OK. For example I discovered The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones (1992) with Corey Carrier and Sean Patrick Flanery, a Spielberg TV series. I also liked Sweet Land (2005) with Elizabeth Reaser, and found Life in the Undergrowth (2005) a documentary by David Attenborough to be of interest. Although not a movie, just a narration with some graphics, I thought Alexander Scourby did a good job with the Holy Bible: King James Version: New and Old Testaments (2007).

*** Loved:
Hot Fuzz
The Bourne Ultimatum
I Am Legend
The Simpsons Movie
V for Vendetta (2006, but I just saw it.)
Little Miss Sunshine (2006, but I can't believe it made it on someone's hated list up there.)

*** Hated:
300
Tideland
Spiderman 3

There's not much in the way of more serious movies that I felt strongly about one way or the other.

*** Looking Forward To:
Into the Wild
The Darjeeling Limited
Indiana Jones
The Dark Knight

Ron from Pbg

Steven Wright: When the Leaves Blow Away
The Lives of Others
Knocked Up
Into the Wild
Ratatouille
Transformers
After the Wedding
Hot Fuzz

Green Leaf is excellent, imo.
