Business First of Columbus reports that Netflix is setting up a new shipping center in Grove City, Ohio.
The Netflix Inc. subscription movie service may employ as many as 171 workers in Grove City by 2012 as part of a possible move of its national distribution center from California.Netflix has a tentative lease for a 90,200-square-foot industrial building at 2141 Southwest Blvd. that would handle about 20 million DVDs a year. It plans to invest about $450,000 in improvements to the facility and $1.1 million in machinery, equipment, furniture and fixtures.
Update: Several readers report that the Southeaster PA shipping center has been operating for a long time. There are about 50 Netflix shipping centers, and an unknown number of "Drop Locations" (PO Boxes) where a Netflix truck picks up the envelopes and drives them to a regional shipping center for processing. It's getting hard to keep an accurate list since Netflix wants to keep the locations private for security reasons. - Mike. Seth writes about a new shipping center or drop location in Pennsylvania, "I live in Pennsylvania and my movies routinely get shipped from Harrisburg. Until now (I've been a member since 2005) whenever my discs had to be shipped from a different Distribution Center, it was almost always from Maryland (if it wasn't from Maryland it was from further away). Yesterday I got an e-mail that a disc was shipping from "Southeastern" PA (yes, it was all one word)."
Southeastern has been around for at least five years ... we get nearly all our discs from there.

I have been getting over 95% of my discs from Southeastern PA during my 4 years with Netflix.

I have been sending and receiving discs from "Southeastern PA" for through the duration of my membership as well.

"Southeastern PA" has been around forever, and appears to be somewhere in the vicinity of West Chester - a suburb a bit west of Philadelphia.

I used to return my movies to Southeastern, which I beleive to be a physical send/recieve location. I then switched to return movies to Belmawr, NJ, which I believe to be a drop location.

Southeastern is right next to Wayne, PA (near King of Prussia). The only thing actually in Southeastern seems to be the post office - businesses next door have a mailing address of Wayne. Service is very fast from Southeastern - I live near there and if I drop my movies at the Southeastern post office in the morning, Netflix will usually have received them by the afternoon.

90k sqf is far bigger than their typical distribution center--and, nearly 200 employees is again way more than usual. This information does not add up.

Hey, Seth here, the guy who reported Southeastern as new. Quite odd that it's been around so long, and I had never gotten a disc from there for almost 4 years! I've gotten a discs from all over the country but never from Southeastern.

Southeastern Pa is a drop location near King of Prussia that primarly serves large direct mail(Re:junk mail) and bulk shippers in the area. There is also a large payment processing center that uses the "Southeastern" Pa address,Comcast is one of their clients.

The article has a good piece of information on shipping centers which is important for Ohio locals.

More is better in this case. It also indicates that NF continues to fully support its initial business model - DVDsByMail - with capital construction.
I do wish, however, that there was a way for me to communicate to NF when I'm willing to have DVD's shipping from distant centers. I've often wondered if this was done as another type of throttle or perhaps NF was redistributing there inventory levels between centers on my dime.

Netflix is moving their Central Operations to Ohio out of their Sunnyvale, Ca location, and moving the shipping center in Sunnyvale to Fremont, Ca. This move is scheduled for March of 09.

In response to Luke who said "this information doesnt add up", you are right. Its not a distribution center. It will be the centeral operations center. Basically where all new movies are sent from the studios and processed into the little white sleeves and then from there sent at all the distribution centers across the US. This is now being done in the Sunnyvale, Ca facility. Again this move is slated for March of 09. Hope this was helpful.
