Bloomberg reports that Roku is looking to raise $30 million and is considering a public offering next year. According to the story, Roku has already sold more than 500,000 Roku Players, and expects to do about $75 million in sales this year. Roku CEO Anthony Wood said has wants 100 channels and to give the Roku Player away -- he'll generate revenue by selling ads and subscription content.
The story also notes that Netflix has sold its $6 million stake in the company to Menlo Ventures, and might discuss the sale during the earnings call this week.
In related News, ZatzNotFunny has reports that one of the first "private" Roku channels is an adult channel called EroticVision.
Wow... two writers, two editors, and even the headline is wrong? Roku, the company, existed long before Netflix gave them cash and employees. I had a Soundbridge eons ago, my first digital music streamer. Great product. Wood left Roku for Netflix and then returned.

Netflix is on Media Pcs, Xbox 360, PS3, soon the Wii, in some tvs and blu-ray players. I never did see the longevity of a separate box.

My lazy & debaucherous roommate (formerly neighbor) has pretty much ignored my Roku boxes for the last year. Adding something to the queue, selecting it on the screen, and finally waiting through opening credits isn't his idea of entertainment. He wants to turn on the tube, hear noises and see pictures. He's happy to pay DirectTV for this "luxury".
He occasionally will buy DVDs. Adult DVDs with "heavily male" casts. I don't know how many "male actors" work "opposite" one another in EroticVision's content. I would love him to benefit from the presence of Roku boxes in our house, but not like this.
