Haven't seen the 2.8 update yet but every time there is one I kind of hold my breath that all will be well.

noor

my roku app does not have the * on it why

Mike

You need the new remote to access the * button. Alternatively you can use the telnet interface. The * button is "press info": http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?t=20106&sid=4b3c4c05b238091405c13132a0276369

As a relatively new Roku user, I'm still not entirely impressed with the Roku interface. It needs some prettifying, IMHO but 2.8 is a nice update overall.

I enjoyed my Roku box when I had it. Got buggy for awhile during the addition of HD content but they solved that problem relatively quickly. Now I have a Sony BluRay player which is how I stream NF. The HuluPlus feature on the Sony is live now, but I haven't decided if it's worth getting yet. I've been looking at this new Boxee set top box due out on Nov. 10. Anyone have any experience w/ Boxee on their computers? What's the selection and content like? Worth $200 for this new device? Apparently it will stream NF as well. Thanks.

Matt

I had a Roku, but it just died last week. I can't complain, I got one when they first came out and I loved it. I was thinking of replacing it, but with streaming on the PS3 and Wii, it isn't necessary for me right now.

@Matt

It might not be dead. The power supply might have just gone bad.

Crow550

@Matt

It's the power supply the first gen models had bad power supplies.

Gran

@Matt, I thought mine went dead too but it was just the power supply.

The last Roku update didn't impress me. I prefer the older interface with the larger artwork. But I do like this new home screen. I wonder what else was in this update? The interface seems a little snappier.

NetFlix and Roku badly need a "What's New?" feature. Everyone with a computer has enjoyed (suffered?) new versions of software. Everyone who has installed that new version, knows to first click on the "What's New?" link.

I installed the new software version last night but other than the little graphic at the top and the channel matrix, I don't know what I've got.

I have the Chaneru channel, which lets me play video files from my computer and which I use it almost as much as I use Netflix, and this update broke it. I also had a private YouTube channel that doesn't work any more. On the other hand I have a "seasonal banner".

@ PatB: I agree that it would be nice to see it on the Roku, but from the Roku forums, here's the list of changes:

Version 2.8 b1150 includes the following changes:

•Seasonal home screen banner
•Ability to re-order channels on the home screen - This feature requires the new 12 button slim remote, included with the Roku XD or XD/S models. The remote is also available for purchase separately at http://www.roku.com.

•New grid-style Channel Store
•New icons for Settings and Channel Store
•Home screen clock
•Time Settings added to settings

I suspect there may be other "invisible" chnages they didn't list, maybe having ot do with the new players/remotes.

I know this thread is several days old now but I'll give it a shot. I too have a Blu-ray player where HuluPlus went live. However, when I clicked on the icon, there was a code for two free months and a link where to use it on Sony's web site. So you might check it out. I purchased the player just this year and it's Model BDP-S570. So if you own a Sony Blu-ray or Bravia, watch for it.

The web address to use that link is www.sony.com/huluplus. It says at the top of the page try hulu plus for free.

Version 2.8 caused about half of my video library that is stored on a networked hard disk to become squished in the horizontal axis. Titles that played OK on version 2.7 are now not viewable.

I would like to say something 'nice' here about 2.8 - but its hard. OK, I got a clock and a 'seasonal banner' - nothing that I would have asked for and nothing that add any real functionality. I am somewhat of a fan of the new channel store...somewhat. But, some of the channels that I had grown to love and count on no longer work - whats that about? I bought my first ROKU box week one when it was announced...and this is the first release where I have felt like taking a hammer to my 'little black box'.
