I got through an ep of Mad Men around 9:30 eastern but after that I did start getting connection messages telling me to reconnect with my server. Each time I did it connected fine but would only last about 30 seconds back in Netflix before the error came up again. Haven't checked it since.

Yup - Eastern Pennsylvania here went down from about 10:00 - 10:30.

It's amazing that outtages are occurring more frequently but Netflix's offer of a service credit doesn't come with ever occurrence. They used to offer something every time it happened.

Sign in seemed OK, but took a while to load my queue. wouldn't load my recently watched list at all....didn't have any trouble watching Torchwood once my queue FINALLY loaded.

This is exactly why it's outrageous that they're raising prices by as much as they are. Streaming is just not a fully functioning service yet.

lorell

Haven't tried streaming, but the site is still flaky. The movies I sent back yesterday alternate between showing up received and not received.

People try BB ONLINE they are giving a 2 free week trial! BB takes 2 days to get movies and about the same for returns! But they are cheaper give it a try!

Hokie7373

How would switching to Blockbuster Online resolve streaming issues since they don't have that service?

As for Netflix, these outages are occuring way too often for a company that made recent price changes and wants to push their customers in this direction. Get your crap together NF

@Jv3030 explain how its cheaper? If you include the fact that you HAVE to get blu-ray compared to Netflix where you have a choice and can reduce your price.

Blockbuster:
1 at a time 11.99
2 at a time 16.99
3 at a time 19.99

Netflix:
with blu-ray
1 at a time 9.99
2 at a time 14.99
3 at a time 19.99
without
1 at a time 7.99
2 at a time 11.99
3 at a time 15.99

Doesn't seem cheaper to me. Seems to me like you're paying more to get access to games and blu rays. Please explain how they're cheaper, especially if the shipping takes even 1 day longer each way.

Yes they are having to many outages, it's getting pretty annoying.

Jv3030

There are more plans then you are showing so get a clue! Plus you get new movies and don't have to wait 28 days!

Art Artistry

There is gold under that rainbow you see too. Don't you believe me? What you want proof? Just have faith!

I searched through their help section and it doesn't show any other unlimited plans. Maybe they offer didn't prices and plans to different people. That kind of thing always ticks me off.

Maybe you can enlighten me? or maybe you're Jolly.

It's 4:45PM 8/9/11 and I have gotten emails that they have received 2 of the 3 I sent back yesterday. I've also gotten emails that they have sent 2 replacements. None of that is reflected on the web site. It's still showing the 3 they previously mailed to me.

Their system still seems to be hosed. The emails, and disks, seem to be going in and out as usual although maybe a bit tardy, but their computer system isn't updating the queues as usual.

Apparently, it's all Amazon's fault according to PBS New's Hour.

Pat Billone

I have a netflix hub here in my hometown. I sent a movie back yesterday and I get an email today and my new movie tomorrow...normally...this is the first time it has not happened. No email that it was received today and a new one is sent out.

moviegeek

Yeah NewsHour reported that lightning knocked out Amazon's servers in Ireland last night, Netflix uses Amazon's servers to stream.

Kealani Smith

We experienced outage 8/8 at 18:30 Alaska Standard. On 8/9 had no problems from 18:00-19:00 AKS.

maubs

I had an outage on Aug. 9 (Tues) at around 9:15 pm Central. Same error message as during the outage on 8/8. Switched over to Hulu and watched there, instead.
Why is it so hard to find out about Internet outages?

Hokie7373

Gold Jerry Gold! When pointed out that BB is actually more expensive, just change the argument completely.

@Art

It depends on the number of discs and your personal value on certain features that determines which is cheaper.

From the prices you posted, the 3-out plans are the same between the two. But with Blockbuster, you get unlimited in-store exchanges, movies 28 days sooner than Netflix, and games. With Netflix, you get instant streaming.

But how much each of those features actually cost isn't known as they're just factored into the price. I mean how much does "movies 28 days sooner" cost? If it's included in the $19.99 price, it could be $2.99 of the price meaning if you were to add it to Netflix that would mean Netflix's price goes from $19.99 to $22.98. Or what about in-store exchanges? Another $2.99? We don't know. But we do know Netflix has the same price without Netflix actually offering some of the same things.

But with Netflix's recent change in prices and splitting their streaming service and DVD-by-mail service into 2 separate purchases its a bit harder to compare the two. But Blockbuster CAN be cheaper, again, depending on whether you want streaming, how many discs out, if you want blu-ray, if in-store exchanges is important to you, etc. Or Netflix can be cheaper.

Simply listing the prices like you did and saying "not-uh, not cheaper" isn't an accurate comparison considering the differences of what's included in each package. And no, shipping does not take longer with Blockbuster.

IM A NEW USER ONLY BY A COUPLE OF MONTHS. BUT IM GETTING DISGUSTED AND AM THINKING OF CANCELLING. MONDAY THRU FRIDAY IT WORKS FINE AND I GET CONNECTED INSTANTLY. BUT THEN COMES THE WEEKEND AND I CANT GET A CONNECTION ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, THEN COMES MONDAY AND EVERYTHING IS FINE AGAIN. IVE CHEKCED BY VIZIO DEVICE, MY WIRELESS ROUTER ETC AND THEY ARE ALL FINE. SO IT MUST BE NETFLIX SERVER AND IF THEY CANT FIX IT SO WE GET SERVICE 24 HRS A DAY 7 DAYS A WEEK THEN IM GOING TO CANCEL!

Art Artistry

@D You're not including the perks Netflix has, including a larger library overall, by quite a bit. Lower charges for things like lost discs and more leniency on their return. Less "fees". So some of the plans are cheaper, and some are more around the same, but overall you get more choice on what you want. A person who only wants DVDs wouldn't hvae a lot of reasons to go to blockbuster. And blockbusters shipping times are overall longer then Netflix'. Netflix advertises something like 97% of customers are in a 1 day shiping window, blockbuster makes no such claim for a reason and for their "7 day rental" they actually give you 3 days shipping time as part of the rental.

@Bluelight422 Netflix' servers have nothing to do with this. I can tell you that right off the bat. What kind of internet do you have and who is your provider? Also have you tried streaming through the computer during those times?
